Gathering of Eagles Speaker Series Blasts Off April 11
Mark your calendars! Dr. John Grunsfeld, NASA Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate, astronaut, and Hubble Space Telescope Repairman will be featured on April 11 at 6 PM at the Cosmos Club.
This promises to be such a fascinating event that Kevin Marvel, President & CEO of the American Astronomical Society wanted to issue a personal invitation:
Dear Scouts and Scouters,
It's not every day you get to meet an astronaut, especially one who has played such a central role in increasing our understanding of the Universe itself. Dr. John Grunsfeld is both a scientist and an astronaut and currently leads NASA's Science Mission Directorate as Associate Administrator for NASA. Managing all the science activities of our nation's space agency takes a lot of time, but he has generously agreed to be the speaker for our second distinguished lecture on April 11, 2012, just two weeks from now.
During his four flights into space he undertook five spacewalks, several to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, earning him the nickname 'telescope repairman' along with his fellow crew mates. He will share his personal experiences in space, discuss some of the scientific accomplishments NASA has secured for mankind in the past several years and the agency's plans for future achievements.
Held at the elegant Cosmos Club, GOE's Distinguished Speaker Series gathers local adult Eagle Scouts and Scouting volunteers for an evening of camaraderie and networking while providing an opportunity to meet and listen to a distinguished leader from the public sector, government, business, the military and other areas of endeavor.
Take a minute now to register for this exciting event and take the opportunity to meet a fellow Scout and distinguished leader who has looked down on the Earth from orbit with a multi-ton space telescope in his hands.
Space is limited, so sign up today!
Yours in Scouting,
Kevin Marvel
