Pack 3600 Families,

March will be another busy month for the Pack, with the St. Patty's Day Parade (March 3) and the District Pinewood Derby (March 10).  We also will have a wonderful opportunity in March for our Cub Scouts to earn the Gymnastics Belt Loop!  With the Summer Olympics approaching rapidly, there's a great tie-in, as gymnastics is always a featured event!

Requirements for the Gymnastics Belt Loop:
  1. Explain the six events of men's gymnastics: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vaulting/side horse, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
  2. Participate in three of the six events using the proper equipment.
  3. Explain the safety rules you should follow to learn gymnastics.
The Cub Scouts will complete these elements in a safe and fun environment, with fully certified instructors, at the Alexandria/Kingstowne location of "My Gym".  They will learn about the six men's gymnastics events and gymnastics safety, then will work in small groups to complete at least three of the events; the session will conclude with a ride on the famous My Gym zipline!  Because we are using an outside venue, there is a cost involved for this activity.

EVENT DETAILS:

WHERE:  My Gym, 5810 Kingstowne Center #110 (at intersection of S. Van Dorn and Kingstowne Blvd)

WHEN:    Saturday, March 17, 7-8 PM

COST:    $10/Scout
(NOTE: As always, the Pack will purchase and award the Belt Loops for the boys who participate/complete the requirements)

ATTIRE:   Scouts should wear their Class B tees along with athletic-style shorts - or pants - and SOCKS (shoes are left in cubbies in the lobby area).

We need a minimum of 5 Cub Scouts to have this event, so please RSVP directly to me ASAP if you interested - please let me know if you are DEFINITE about your Cub Scout's attendance or tentative, with confirmation to come later.  Note that because we are committing funds to My Gym, we will need to collect each Scout's $10 fee in advance of the event (no later than the March 15 Den Meeting).
On the evening of the event, parents may sign their Cub Scouts in, leave, then return to pick them up at the end of the session.  There are many stores and restaurants in the Kingstowne area for your entertainment if you don't wish to return home.  For parents who wish to stay and watch/take photos, there is a "lobby" area with some seating; also, there are a few toys and books there to entertain younger siblings, if needed.

Please feel free to ask questions if I've left something out or if anything is unclear!

Thank you,
Cubmaster Lisa
