Hello!

I was able to get a group tour time to go to the Denver Mint. If you aren't aware, we are one of two spots in America that have a mint, and the tours are very difficult to get tickets to. The tour covers the present state of coin manufacturing and the history of the mint.

For the wolf den, this will help them to complete an elective about coins. For the Bear den, this could help to fulfill a part for the robotics elective, or part of the duty to country.

You do need to be 7 years or older for the tour, so I am sorry for our Lion and some Tiger scouts that would not be able to take part in this opportunity.

We are able to have up to 50 people on the tour, so family members are also welcome to attend. The tour will be on Wednesday, January 3 at 2 pm. Everyone will need to be at the gate for the tour by NO LATER 1:30 pm.  There is construction going on around there as well, so please also allow extra time for finding parking. Below is additional information from the mint about what is, and is not, allowed.

Please respond to this email ASAP with how many people you would like to bring to the tour. I need to get back to them Monday morning, so I need a response no later than Sunday, December 31.

Note from the Denver Mint

The Denver Mint’s address is 320 West Colfax Avenue and the Visitor Entrance is located on Cherokee Street. Lost tickets cannot be replaced and are non-transferable.  The Mint does not provide parking, but there are meters and pay lots within a few blocks of the Mint.

There is an extensive list of prohibited items, including all purses and bags. The Mint does NOT provide lockers or storage for any items. All visitors are subject to a security screening, including metal detection and X-ray examination of hand-carried items. The United States Mint reserves the right to deny access to anyone at any time.

Permitted items:

  • A palm-sized wallet that fits in your pocket
  • Powered off cameras/cell phones. Photography is prohibited while on the tour
  • Umbrellas, walkers, wheelchairs
  • Empty water bottles
  • Medical items necessary for the safety and well-being of the visitor

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

  • Handbags, purses, fanny packs, tote bags, backpacks, packages, and bags
  • Food and drinks
  • Lighters and matches
  • Weapons, including pocket knives and personal protective devices such as pepper spray

YOU MUST ARRIVE at 1:30pm at the visitors/tour entrance.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,
Melissa
