The Cuatro, Puerto Rico's national instrument, is iconic of Puerto
Rican culture. It means "things Puerto Rican." The Festival del Cuatro
of California is a sharing of Puerto Rican culture, through its music,
with other Puerto Ricans and non-Puerto Ricans who might not otherwise
have exposure to a musical tradition that is more than 300 years old.
The second Festival del Cuatro of California will feature the greatest
cuatro players in the world in a wonderful musical arena- the San
Gabriel Civic Auditorium
The Festival del Cuatro of California serves as a vehicle for
promoting our national instrument, traditional Puerto Rican music, and
the broader Puerto Rican culture of which we are so proud. We do not
do this in a narrow sense. We invite others who are not Puerto Rican
to join us and to partake of this cultural feast as we seek to connect
with other cultural traditions to promote understanding and better
communication among all peoples.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 1st from 5:45PM-10PM,
at the San Gabriel Civic Center.
Edwin Colon Zayas will be delighting us with his entire group. Playing
that beautiful traditional music that will stimulate your senses with
a rush of memories. Edwin and his 16 year old daughter will delight
you with a number "a cuatro manos". A performance that will should
serve as an example and encouragement to our children.
Yomo Toro will get you all "riled" up with his mastery at the cuatro
and the beautiful voice of his singer Dalia Silva.

Spread the word, last year we had many people that did not find out
about this event until after the fact :-) Help us create the buzz,
the Festival is just around the corner!
