Hello Everyone!

It's been a little while since this forum has been active, but I'd like to get it going again! My name is Jon Pollak and I was hired as the User Support Specialist at CUAHSI in June. I came to CUAHSI after finishing my M.A. in Geography from UConn in the spring. While most of my background is in GIS, I've been getting up to speed on all of the difference pieces of HIS technology over the past few months.

Here is a brief snapshot of where we are today with HIS:

Since February 2012, the average number of times series downloaded is just over 864,000. Time series downloaded has ranged from about 675,000 (September 2012) to over 1 million (April 2012). The increase in usage in April corresponds with the last stable release of HydroDesktop, version 1.4.11, which occurred March 13, 2012. These statistics demonstrate tremendous growth in usage of the system in less than two years... January 2011 saw only 4,197 time series downloaded.

We are working towards development of a new HydroDesktop version, 1.5, and expect a stable version released by December. The focus of this version will be upon developing a dependable application for accessing data registered in HIS and visualizing time series data. You may find that analysis tools, which previously came in the standard HydroDesktop application, will not be included in the standard download. These tools will still be available for download via the extension manager.

The HIS Users Committee is developing a survey to be disseminated this Fall with the goal of gaining a better understanding of who the HIS users are, what they are using HIS for, and what modifications to the system might benefit our users.

WaterML 2.0 has been adopted by the OG as a "standard for encoding and exchanging data describing the state and location of water resources, both above and below the ground surface"(http://www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressrelease/1696). Congrats to all who have worked towards this!

Please feel free to contact me should you have HIS related questions or comments!

Cheers,

Jon
