Hackers,

For starters, here's a cool thing to check out (kind of like an API pipeline)

IfThisThenThat.  http://ifttt.com/

We have ~180,000 Jamaican Dollars (2,000 USD) to spend.  How should we spend it?

We have $2000 to spend on things other than food.  We could potentially host a ruby/rails workshop with the help of quickleft.  They expressed some interest in doing so, but we would probably need to do it in conjunction with some other people.  Are there events that we want to sponsor or do?

There is a mini maker-fair/VC pitching deal in the works.  Who wants to take part?

I was talking to a member of the hackerspace the other day, and he says that we could use his space (on boulder creek and broadway) to host parties/events.  One such event that he expressed interest in was a mini maker fair for the hackerspace.  If this was something that the hackerspace club wanted to do, there is potential to make this a Techstars-like event.  That is, projects are submitted, and we choose the best ones to be pitched to Venture Capitalists.  Between the people in the club, we know many Techstars mentors, and have contact with the likes of Brad Feld and David Cohen.  Techstars is a startup company accelerator and is famed for producing successful companies.  http://www.techstars.com/

Workshops?

There's been much talk about workshops at the hackerspace.  On Saturday, Chris is putting on a Pure Data workshop at Boulder Hackerspace (BHS).  Pure Data is the linux version of Max MSP (Audio/Visual Programming interface used often for digital art and more).  Ideas for workshops (where/what)?

In other news.  We need to fill positions.  If you can think of a position that you would like to fill let us know.  Also, Hackerspace needs a designer.  If you would like to be the Hackerspace club/BHS designer let us know (might look good on a resume?).

Hey Peter -

I'm definitely interested in filling the 'designer' position for Hackerspace/BHS.  Let me know what I need to do.  I can do any kind of graphic design, 3D Design, Video, etc etc etc.

As far as the $2,000, I think that maker fair would be very interesting.

Anyway, I'm currently out of state, but when I'm back, maybe we could meet to get some ideas flowing, and I could show you some of the design work I've done

Talk to you soon!

I think the mini-maker fair is a great idea. Have you heard of the student group called StartUp CU? They do some similar stuff where they have people pitching ideas and others come in to talk about their personal start-up experiences. Maybe we could work out some collaboration with them? They pitch/ source the ideas, we work on hacking them into reality. Just a thought.

It might also be helpful to see how they spend their money to get a feel for how the Hackerspace club might spend it's money.

Cheers

Yeah.  Do you know any people in StartUp CU?  I think it would be good to work with them.  Inventions/hacking + business are good together.

Yes, this is a great call.  Let's find someone in that club.  I'll start searching.

There is also another student group at CU that is similar to StartupCU called AECU (http://www.aecuboulder.com/). I am not sure how established they are, just throwing it out there.
