Hello everybody,
We've got a busy week ahead of us!
Saturaday, Feb 18 @ 12:20 pm @ UMC 425 we have our
funding hearing in front of the Student Government Funding Board. If you want to be there and help deliver it, please reply to the group saying so. Here's the response I got from the board regarding the format:
The board will give you about 10 mins to present your budget. You will want to give a brief description
of your groups mission and a quick review of your budget…..how you came
up with the budget, how the funds will help you achieve your groups
mission. Then the board will take about 10 mins to ask questions.
That's pretty much it.
So we should put together a
Google presentation (it's currently empty) and a
one-page hanodout to give them something to look at and take notes on. If you want to help out, feel free to edit the two documents as we get going.
Also, I've put together a signature sheet to gauge student interest and to show the board how much everyone loves us!
PLEASE PRINT OUT A FEW COPIES and GET SIGNATURES IN YOUR CLASSES!! Be sure to tell people that we won't email them; the email address is just to prove that they are a CU student. Also, the QR-code points to our Facebook page, so maybe we can get some likes in the process.
Other things that are going on:
- Beyond getting signatures, we'd like to get short blurbs of support from professors. Clayton Lewis is on board with the idea and I'm pretty sure Nikolaus Correll would be willing to do this as well. Other professors I'd like to get endorsements from are Michael Eisenberg, Dirk Grunwald, and David _____ from the Atlas program. I'm sure there are others who would be happy to support us, so talk to your professors and see what the reaction is.
- Daniel Zukowski and I (and maybe Halley?) are going to try to catch Michael Eisenberg after his class tomorrow @ 10:15 in the DLC, bottom floor. This is just to introduce ourselves as a club and begin the dialog. If anyone else wants to join, feel free.
- We still need to agree on an official meeting time and we should do this before Saturday! I've set up a Doodle poll to take care of this. Go on a let us know what times you can meet in an average week.
- We need to start developing a public face; what I mean by this is a logo, a tag line, flesh out our Facebook page, start thinking about flier designs. I'm no artist, but I put together an idea for a logo that was pretty simple. I'll send that out later tonight.
- Lastly, Peter brought up this application to create an art installation in the CU Natural History Museum. This could be right up our alley and would get us good publicity on campus--something to point to and say "we did that!" The theme is Colorado Water 2012 and it's pretty open ended. There's also $800 in funding attached to it. One idea: I implemented the Boids algorithm last semester, which simulates flocking behavior, and it's surprisingly similar to schooling fish. It could be adapted with an Arduino to make it slightly interactive, too. Anyway, this is a discussion for another email, but start brainstorming.
SO, we'll meet up again on Tuesday at SSD and touch base. If I missed anything, feel free to chime in. And, since this wound up being a bit long, here's the most important bits:
- Use the Doddle poll to let us know your availability!
- Print out a few signature sheets and fill them!
- If you want to help in the hearing, reply to this email and/or edit the Google Docs at the links above.
- If you know any artsy people, try to hit them up for logo design,
-= Happy Hacking =-
