Cheaptrick-Neptune possible changes

Hi guys

 

We would like to improve the Cheaptrick-Neptune link.

 

There are currently 2 options for this, one would be to redirect it through Darkwing, (I currently have 130mbit throughput to cheaptrick) although we haven’t tested Line of Sight for Darkwing-Neptune.

 

The 2^nd option would be to go through Shadowclaw(he currently has 70mbit of throughput to Cheaptrick).  Charl, would this be ok with you, also if so, can you please have a look and see if you can see Neptune from your roof?

 

If either of these options is possible, we will not need any new equipment so we could do it as soon as everyone is available.

Unfortunately I do not have LOS to Neptune. We looked into this route when I initially joined, but as stated, between the palm tree and double storey I can’t get through at all.

How is your link to Neptune, any chance that tree at the front of your house isn’t obstructing a link from you to Shadowclaw?

 

Otherwise we must test Neptune-Darkwing

Did links deteriorate after moving Neptune sector over to other RB ? It's quite full at this stage since other one broke.  I'm willing to help with anything there and or sponsor a RB 911 or 912  or something if it might help the Neptune setup!

The Palm tree is on the other side, so I can get around it quite ok to Neptune.  Link to Shadowclaw I'm not sure of but have the width of my house to check it out from, dependant on that Double storey house between us as well. will take a look.

If charl and Gideon are available on Saturday morning, we can test a link between you 2.

 

Then if Henk is available we can make it happen if it proves possible.  And we can test the link to Darkwing. Although, with the speed I’ve seen between shadowclaw and cheaptrick, I think the 1^st option would be better.

HI guys,

I've got a clear view to Charl . Thats a faded SXT on the pole if I'm not mistaken ?  That's if I move my pole a couple meters over where I cannot see Neptune (moving will be quick and painless on my side, and then I have no cables where I actually don't want it so its a bonus.). But then I have a unused DSTV Dish bracket on the other side of the house with clear view to Neptune, So,  If this could help I'm willing. Guess we wont be able to scan but I'll be available 9 to 11 tomorrow if anybody wants to come check it out.

So if we move mark’s stationbox to charl, henks stationbox to you, and get 2 low power sxt for you to Neptune, all should work

 

I have one here, and I’m sure we can find another one in the area.

 

Ampie, have the guys across the road from you tested that sxt I left with you, if you still have it can we use it.

 

If I’m not going to connect to Neptune, then I don’t need the 5hnd which is on my pole at the moment.

Is there clarification on what I need to do on my side yet?

 

I will pop in during the day to install any equipment needed on my side.

 

Just need advise on what and how it must be set up so that you can log in and do the necessary setup.

 

I do have my internet and NAT set up on my sxt if this make any kind of change to it.

The plan, unless anyone tells me why this is a bad idea, is as follows

 

Move Cheaptrick’s Stationbox from Neptune to Shadowclaw.

Turn Shadowclaw SXT to face Reaver

Add Shadowclaw RB750 between SXT and Stationbox (move all shadowclaw local network and internet to RB750)

Move Reaver’s pole to the other side of his garage.

Move Cheaptrick-Shadowclaw SXT to Reaver to face Shadowclaw.

Add my RB750 to Reaver

Add 1^st Bothasig spare SXT Lite5 to Reaver facing Neptune

Add 2^nd Bothasig spare SXT Lite5 to Neptune facing Reaver.

 

 

We need to find a time when Mark, Charl, Gideon and Henk are all available to make this happen

I am away this weekend, so will be difficult for me.

 

So, if I understand correctly, I must get Cheaptrick stationbox which will replace my current SXT and link to Cheaptrick, then I must turn my SXT to Reaver and create a new link?

 

What I will do in the meanwhile is to set up my RB750 to run my local lan, internet and current WUG link to cheaptrick.

 

Once I have the stationbox, I will mount it and link to cheaptrick, and turn my SXT to point to Reaver.

 

Questions:

 

1.       Can someone please supply me all the IP info for

a.       Stationbox link to cheaptrick

b.      SXT link to Reaver

c.       My RB750

2.       Must I set up the SXT to an AP, or will Reaver be the AP

3.       Once all is plugged in and working, will someone log in and set up the link between the SXT and stationbox and OSPF?

a.       What username and password must I create

4.       Will anyone need access to my RB750?

5.       Just let me know when and where I need to collect the stationbox

Hi Bruce,

 

I use NAT and will continue with that, so I do not need a large IP pool, so you can supply whatever is necessary for you guys to do what you need to do.

 

I have looked at it all, and to be honest, doubt if I will be able to get the setup correctly done.

 

If I get all the equipment, I will mount it and align it best possible, but will then need someone to come and help me with the setup of all the units.

 

I will clear everyting, and then it should not be such a mission setting it up.

 

Alternatively, I can drop off my SXT and RB750 to someone to do the setup at their own leisure, and then I can just install it?

Charl,

 

Once the 2 stationboxes are facing each other, they should reconnect automatically, and then I can do all the setup remotely, as long as all the cables are connected, no need to deliver.

 

I don’t want to move the stationbox from henk until all the equipment is at the right houses and ready to reconnect.  I just need to fetch the extra SXT from Pro99 and I can deliver everything.

Morning All

I will see what time I finish today, and can possibly fit the equipment this afternoon if I can fetch it from someone?

I cant access wind or remember the email I used register the account, is someone able to reset my password? 

I will then fit everything and plug it into my RB750 then Bruce can log in and set it all up.
