lurker has just rebooted the site the rb still doesnt come on.  My guess is that the rb got wet and is now kaput.

well need to put the in the other 43e that lurker has.  stacey didnt you say you have a ut4 enclosure is it possible that we can use it in place of the current steel on thats up at lurker now.

I dont think it will be a big job to replace the rb plus  enclosure seeing that we really dont have to drop the pole.  The pole ia stable enough we can just put the ladder agianst the pole and do the swop.

Ill have to chat with lurker to see when we can do this im going to grabouw saturday morning to collect a fishtank for a friend after that i can be free.

lets hope the ncars is still working the i can somma align for the sneaki-planned-link.

Evening all

I spoke to lurker seems Saturday afternoon is good for him and me. If there anyone that wants to help please let us know. Sunday morning is also fine with  me the job shouldn't take more than hour and a halve I believe.

All we need to do is take down the current enclosure, drill holes in the other one put back the other 433 with the old ncard. We can also put back the ncard so that we can scan for sneaki a possible new link for Bothasig.

Stacy what is the possibility that we can use that ut4 of yours(Question do you have the pole brackets for the ut4), otherwise we'll just have to try and seal the current enclosure round the edges with  aap... .

That's not the end of the world it can only get water through there were we sealed it.
So we need to seal that with insulation tape then aapk.. and then insulation tape again and that will be more than sufficient. This actually make the work a lot less, we just need  to test maybe the card also got fried luckily I have a spare one somewhere if needs be.

Morning all

After a long day for me, we got working on the lurker-secor the problem was as Stacy pointed out water leakage into the enclosure. We replaced the the 433 and the ncard. My only big concern is that we had to put the kit back into the same enclosure. I did make a hopefully a better effort of sealing the enclosure but who knows.

I would prefer if we do one of the two following options

1. Replace the enclosure with a ut4

2.Lower the current enclosure, It will be lowered to just above the wall brackets were we can easily work on it. We will then also be able to wrapped the box tightly with some black bag to help prevent water getting into the box.

I would just like to note that for both methods well need two 3m lmr cables as in scenario one we will also lower the box.

Stacy the sector is up and running and looks better than before where we had a difference in tx/rx of ten for both clients at moment Simon has a signal of 55/55. Can i request from you to make me a user on your  rb please un ogon pw blank ill change it myself.

Evening all

I would like to welcome two new clients to Bothasig, Tony Armstrong tarmst...@gmail.com node tonya and Charl XSpi...@gmail.com node xspitfire can the groups admins please invite them. Lurker site needs a bit of work and we need to set a date to do it.

This is what needs to be done

1. Groove to lurker should come off to go to scoop for testing it freezes every now and then
2. We need to lower the ut enclosure of the 433 and buy a new ut4 which will be under 150 ill make a bracket for the back to fit on the pole seeing that scoop doesn't sell ut4 any more
3. The sneaki link need alignment
4. I would like to have Nextlevel there to test the current on the roof and rb's(hes going away to congo for 2 weeks)
5. I will get a qoute for 3m lmr's  we need two on for sneaki and on for the sector

Can savage and SI maybe create logins on your rb's for me I want to change the frequency  channel on your rb's to start get higher sync rate for all clients. I will do the testing mostly in game-time let me know if that will be a problem.

Regards Ogon

Ps will get back to you guys with a possible date

Hi

Lurker if I'm correct then Khelo's router board is the one that got water damage and that was the reason for the last maintenance and repair day. If you have two left and hopefully they are both working ones then you can give them those. All though the one is actually up and running the sector. For this reason well have to make an alternative plan going forward I have a few suggestion but they all include new  and existing clients  to pitch in for the upgrade.

   Lmr   http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/type-male-type-male-p-930                                        =   R188
Enclosure   it will be less than                                                                                                                               =   R200
                                                                                                                                                                    Total    =  R1819
The Lmr cable and enclosure will be maybe a 100 less on each  I just need the time to go and get the quotes,

Positive for this option is it will allow us to still scan and connect to sneaki in parow who is keen for the link.
The 3m enclosure will allow us to mount the ut4 at the bottom of the pole for maintenance.
We can in the future upgrade this equipment to a dualpole sector

Negatives is the high price and the 433l doesnt have a good cpu only 400mhz and with a sector with max 9 clients and a backbone link to sneaki the routerbaord will be under constant strain. This is also expensive.

2. A level4 license groove http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/routerboard-groove-52hn-routeros-p-1446 this will by far be the cheapest option but not neccesary best.  = R969(not sure if the adapter to screw into the sector is  sold separately)

Positives cheap don't need a lmr, can screw into sector
a lot more wind resistant than a ut4 enclosure

Negatives cannot upgrade to daulpole

                                     http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/routerboard-912g-5ghz-outdoor-p-1462   = R1111
                                      http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/type-male-type-male-p-737    x2               =   R228
                                                                                                                                                                                total  = R2359(eish)

Positives this is the way to go, awesome kit  powerful cpu 600mhz 64mb ddr2 ram and a gigabit port although the it will only plug into a 100mb ethernet port.
dualpole kit in some cases will double sync rate for instance 6 poeple sharing could be sharing a 54mb sync on a sinlge pole, I have seen people connect to a daulpole sector with a sync of 300mb.

Negative very expensive . in the long term every on on the sector will probably have to move over to daulpole equipment

4. This is one  I almost forgot, an all in one dualpole sxt-sector  http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/routerboard-sxt-5ghz-sector-p-1510    = R1225

Positives   Daulpole and cheaper than option 3s

Negatives  theses sectors aren't very directional and spray a lot of frequency noise everywhere.

These are the possibility's  that I'm playing around with in my head, maybe there are some of you who have better ideas that can help us make a decision, so feel free to chip in. We can also try to get second-hand equipment somewhere but then  well just have to give it back at a later stage again and the planning will start all over. I personally feel that we should choose between option 3 and 4. But then again the bulk of the money for the upgrade should come from the existing and wannabe clients.

Regards ogon

It might be worth thinking about giving Sneaki my link (groove and 27dbi grid) if I can link to Cheaptrick or someone else close by there who can offer a better signal than the current mediocre-ish one I have to Lurker at the moment.  Hope to be back in SA next weekend and test for possible better links then.

Cheers

Mark I meant I can possibly just reuse the equipment on my side which is linking to lurker currently. This is a 27 grid connection using a groove, but I also have the option óf using a r52hn to go dual pole by purchasing an appropriate dish.

Evening gents

Just a question if the lurker-nextlevel link moves nextlevel-cheaptrick, wont this badly affect the lurker clients of which there are already four and four more in the pipeline?
If links should stay as they are then wont it be best for nextlevel to take the sneaki link(if its a good enough link). The only reason I'm saying this is because luker sector is looking at a sector upgrade and if we gonna put 8 clients on a daulpole sector there should be a backbone link out from lurker.

This is how I see it if nextlevel decide to move to cheaptrick then lurker must get the sneaki link with his then open groove.

Look at my previous post about the options of upgrading the lurker sector I see there has been no replies. I would like us to go for the Rb912 option R2360 divided by 8   which will come to R295 each. Now lets say only 6 decide to pay(this must include the 4 current clients), then we divide  6 and get 394 each. Any new clients after that must then be charged a connection fee of  R295 and that must be given back to the 6 clients who first invested in the upgrade. This is of course just an idea and will ensure that the clients who did the invsetment will get their 100 back in time.

Lurker if you could give some feedback as to my ideas it would be appreciated

Regards Ogon

Ogon.

I agree with you.

Disconnecting the Lurker-Nextlevel link will impact greatly on the sector clients.

I am not really in a position to comment on the best upgrade option.  For that the guys with the better technical knowledge need to comment.  Where sneaki connects to should be decided by who ever has the best link, and capacity to link.

I am not very active on the wug anymore, due mostly to time constraints.  It is after 10 on a Sunday evening and I am still working. I still need time for my family, therefore I am happy for your guys to make the decisions, I will just host the site.

For Maintenance purposes, if we want to take the groove down to be tested, I am available next Sunday, 16 March.  After that, it is only the 29 and 30 March that I am available.

Regards

Keith (Lurker)

I think Lurker will be more than ok with 2 BB links out via Sneaki and Fly.  I will still have my two links then via KMsqare and maybe Cheaptrick.  The Bothasig links will hopefully all be sorted out to optimum performance levels shortly, and with a faster sync and bw from me into Bothasig the situation should improve for everyone.

Hello all

I am not sure how to say to without offending anyone, we need bb links that can be accessed almost all the time when needed when it comes to problems. I feel sometimes its difficult with Lurker links because when and if it goes down it could be for awhile because of accessibility to equipment. This does not effect me in anyway but will do for it clients. I feel we need to have a good look at either fixing the problems for down time at Lurker, if it is replacing what is needed then that needs to be done. But we need to have access to equipment.

Upgrades that are due is Dave Morley bb link to go dual pole and also in future for the sector to go Dual Pole would be nice.

Then Lurker site also needs to be sorted out, I think for now this should take priority in Bothasig. Ogon has proposed a setup for the DP sector and clients.

We then need to sort out other issues at Lurker and that needs to be done soon before winter starts.

All the NEW guys that would like to donate to either upgrades please email bruce...@gmail.com (Darkwing)

Then about nextlevel-cheaptrick bb link. This is more about access to equipment for now or just add another link if ok with Scharl.

Cheers Mark

Hi Stacy,

The short answer is no.

The upgrade will increase capacity at Lurker, your old equipment will work fine, but won’t get the full benefit of the new equipment.

Depending on what equipment you currently have, there are cheaper ways of benefiting,

Hope that helps

Mark/Scharl,

If you would like me to manage the finance on this upgrade, I am happy to do so.

There seem to be links that are not on wind?   Are these links operational?

I think it may be time for an area get together to discuss, as these changes seem to have fundamental impact on our area infrastructure.

Any suggestions?

Bruce

is there any cash left from the cheaptrick upgrade?

Agreeing on an upgrade path and adding cost numbers with a split for sector clients vs bothasig gains will be the best way to speed this along.
Also I agree a meeting in person to hammer out the details will also help speed things along.
Upgrading anything with non dual polarity hardware is a waste of money imho.
Reusing older single polarity known good hardware is good for certain areas.

Well said bruce, long term it will be bestto upgrade to dualpole kit but no one will be forced, the rb912 has a good cpu and will able to handle switching between daul and single pole easily. New client must be forced to get daulpole equipment.

A meeting is a good idea I have km meeting next weekend after that I can make a plan to attend a bothasig please arrange one for us. At lurker there is still current running on the roof if we can get  scharll to have a look at it. I can go to lurker sunday to take down the groove for scoop to test.

It would be nice if we can ground all rbs too.

Regards ogon

Hi Stacy,

The short answer is no.

The upgrade will increase capacity at Lurker, your old equipment will work fine, but won’t get the full benefit of the new equipment.

Depending on what equipment you currently have, there are cheaper ways of benefiting,

Hope that helps

Heinrich,

There is still about R600 left from the cheaptrick upgrade, I suggest that it is used to complete the cheaptrick-DaveMorley link upgrade, since this is where most of the money was raised.

Agree – all dp sectors should be on RB912 (this should help you decide on your lurker upgrade options )

Agree  - all new clients must use dp equipment

I like SXT lite for very short links, SXT HP for up to 1km, and RB912+dish for longer (feel free to disagree)

For guys who already have dp radio, or can add a dp radio to existing equipment, then 2xgrid are probably also fine.

I’m open to suggestions for a date/time for a meeting, is there anyone with space who can host?

For the new clients that want to connect I have a sxt that you can scan with, I just don't have the time  to do it for you. If you can fetch it on Saturday morning please return on the same day, I will set it up correctly to ease the scanning process.

Grounding the pole is a good idea not sure if we gonna have time for it, seeing that we have a meeting and taking down the groove. Maybe we can use the current nextlevel groove to scan for sneaki, that grid is taking up the top spot on the pole. Anybody maybe got a 3m lmr laying around that we can test with?

Their are 4clients tonya, xspitfire, tracy and si connected at the moment and two in the pipeline.

If we can just get input from the clients.  If we get the go ahead then you guys can drop your donation towards the upgrade off at bruce-darkwing.

What needs to be upgraded on the Lucker sector?
Who is all currently connecting to the sector.
How much does each one have to contribute?

Ogon I think you have access to most of the people connecting to Lucker. Can you please advise if individuals need to upgrade? And maybe cost?

I would also like to thank every one for all the hard work that every one is putting into the Bothsig network.

As indicated before, I am willing to contribute. Just tell me how much and where to drop it off.

I am also experiencing extremely slow downloads.

Tonya I do apologize you did indicate before that you are willing to chip in. The good news for lurker-sector guys is that I took an hour to tune all your rbs and links to the sector and  the speed has quadrupled.

For those of you who want to what I did here we go, I logged into the four clients routerboards and set them all to N-band only, superchannel, country ireland, channel width 20/40ghz and made the scanlist 5000-6000. I also went to the wireless interface and set the HT MCS to only the first 4 options this is to make sure that the highest sync rate possible is 60mbs.

Can I ask all clients on this sector if you guys can start downloading as much as possible stuff so I can monitor the link for two days or so.

Regards Ogon

Here is the new and revised quotation for Lurker sector

@x Lmr http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/type-male-type-male-p-737                                     R100

This comes  R2360 including vat.

At the moment we have four active clients SI, TonyA, Xspitfire and Saviger. I can also confirm that I have spoken to Cliff (crippler) and his buddy Diz  and they are willing to share the cost. The cpe 911g scoop said they will only have stock in mid May. Another new client dugm 200m away from lurker also wants to connect and donate towards the upgrade(los still needs to be confirmed ill do this as soon as possible). This leaves us with 7 clients R2360 divided by 7 is R337 each what we need from all clients. Seeing that 3 clients will only be getting there kit in middle May I suggest we try and do the upgrade in that timezone.

Please get the money to Bruce(darkwing) check wind  and reconfirm here that you will chip in.

Regards Ogon

PS let me know if your downloads are  a lot slower than normal i don't go looking for problems so keep me informed.

Quick check shows that PRO99 link is working great for Lurker clients 20 megs plus at times going through that link that’s why you guys are getting better speeds.

Tony,

Timing for me can be difficult, will be home late today and tomorrow, that’s why I suggested Cheaptrick, as he is available more often than I am.

Otherwise Saturday morning could work if we do the Sector radio card change.

Hi,

A quick note, Mark has offered the use of his rb600, when you return the rb433 to its owner.

Thanks Bruce and Mark for this info and good to know that the guys in bothasig is willing to help out where they can. It is totally up to the clients as to what they want to do. Just a few things to consider.
1. My proposed upgrade is all new equipment
2. I can try and get an extension by khelo for lending his routerboard so that those who dont have the extra cash now have another month or two to save
3. The n-card that is in the sector is mine and I would like it back oneday
4. NO offense lurker but your site is not to accessible so would like to do all upgrades on one day
5.With a R52 card in the rb600 only 6 clients is allowed according to CTwug rules the reason for this is that we don't have too many clients on routerboards that will saturate the link and clients will always complain about slow speeds.
6. At the moment we have 4 clients clients connected and 3 that have indicated that they will pay the connection fee to upgrade the  sector thats one more than allowed on  a r52 card(every one has indicated to me that they are willing to pay)
7. According to ctwug rules we can connect 12 clients to a dualpole sector but if we can decide on a maximum of 8 clients will benefit a lot more from the upgrade
8. If we can get the lend extended by khelo then we are allowed to connect 7 clients on the n-card which is a lot more powerful that the r52 radio.

So this will leave us with three options please state which one will work for you (This is for clients and wannabe clients)
1.Each of the 7 clients pay r338 even if it takes 3 months till we get the funds(this means that the 3 new clients can go ahead and buy their kit and connect whenever they ready)
2. We replace the rb433 with Mark's rb600 and put in a r52 and only two of the new clients can connect (ctwug rules only 6 clients on a r52)
3.Put in the RB600 and buy a hn-card this will allow us to later put up a dualpole sector.
with this card we can connect all 7 clients.

Footnote dualpole is the way to go and if tuned properly will allow for awesome speeds.

Ogon

Thanx Ogon for the feed back .

I personal opinion Is if we gonna spend money then we do it properly so that future upgrades will be less expensive and further in the future. The speed increase will be a bonus.

I opt for the option of upgrade where every one can connect with good speed. Think its option 3 ?

Thanx

Stacy

Hi guys,

Surely you are going to need the sector too, to allow the new guys to connect?  (since you want to get it all done at once.)

http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/5ghz-airmax-sector-120-19dbi-p-932    R1550 + VAT

http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php/mikrotik-r52hn-mmcx-minipci-card-p-970   R495 + VAT

there may be a cheaper sector available from UniTerm, but Scoop don’t have stock of any cheaper ones.

Total R2330
