Recreation Center Visit Report

idea of seeing if we could possibly move our meeting place there. It
is a very nice building, with a nice sized room for us to use. Plus
there is another very large room and a ballroom. They have tables and
chairs available and the floor is linoleum in the room we would be
using. Also there is plenty of parking. It is located at 811 East 41st
Street, just 1 ½ blocks West of I-35, and very easy to get to. It is
the old Austin Golf Club building.
The manager, Tinora Williams, was not there at the time we visited,
but I spoke with her on the phone late this afternoon. The space is
available on Wednesday mornings and Thursday nights. But she deferred
all my other questions until after the Parks and Recreation Department
Meeting next week.
The main reason for this meeting is to form a consistent policy
regarding room rental. Currently groups are charged or not depending
on various criteria such as whether or not meetings are open to the
public and/or what charges or sales are going on during the meeting.
Also whether or not we can store our cabinet and/or the sharpener in
the building might be determined at this meeting.
As we discussed at the CTWA meeting last night; Sue Sweeney, Joe
Gallio, and myself are planning on attending that meeting. Anyone else
who wishes to come would be welcomed. The meeting will be held at the
downtown Parks and Recreation Main building at 200 S. Lamar, at 5:30,
next Thursday, February 18th.

Thanks for this update. It sounds like a good place to meet if we can meet
their criteria etc. Will be anxious to hear how this works out after the
meeting next week.
