Apologies for any cross-posting and for the multiple messages recently - we have several very exciting positions available at the moment.

I am happy to share this job ad for a 6 year post-doc position in the Department of Science and Technology Studies, University of Vienna. This is a ‘university assistant’ position where we expect those in the role to develop their own research programme and, if they wish, to complete the ‘Habilitation’ qualification (qualifying them for professorships in the German language university system). The designation is ’Technosciences, Materiality, and Digital Cultures’, so candidates' research should fall under this theme as well as being within STS more generally. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2025, while the planned start date is February 2026.

The successful candidate will join my group as well as being fully integrated into the STS department. Their role will involve:

•    Independent and collaborative research in Science and Technology Studies relating to Technosciences, Materiality, and Digital Cultures;
•    Publication of research results in recognised international journals and/or book publishers;
•    Application for research funding at funding agencies with a competitive and internationally oriented review system;
•    Independent teaching of courses in Science and Technology Studies at the bachelor and master level;
•    Supervision or co-supervision of students at master level;
•    Contribution to the administration and management of the research group and department.

Candidates will have:

•    Completed Ph.D. (by the time the position begins) in Science and Technology Studies or related discipline;
•    Broad knowledge of the topics, theories, and methods of Science and Technology Studies;
•    Distinct research profile in the areas mentioned above, expressed in international publications and in a coherent research plan;
•    Teaching experience: the candidate should be able to offer thematically focused research seminars as well as introductory courses with a broader thematic spectrum, both at bachelor and master level;
•    Excellent proficiency in English; profiency in German is an advantage.
•    The ideal candidate will additionally be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a team, good organisational skills, and high reliability. Experience in (co-)supervising student theses is also an advantage.

Applications must take place via the university’s job portal. Please feel free to contact me (sarah....@univie.ac.at) with any questions about the role. If you have more informal enquiries about the position or about research culture you are welcome to contact Fredy Mora Gámez, who currently holds a similar position.
