Ask the Ministry of Agriculture to protect India’s marine resources

Esperanza, the Greenpeace ship, will be in India soon. You could be on it when it sets sail. Read along to find out how.

The Esperanza will be here to document some of the wonders of India’s marine biodiversity. It will also watch out for destructive and illegal fishing practices that threaten the livelihood security of millions of people and are responsible for the decline in fish stocks and degradation of our marine environment.

Currently, almost 90% of India’s fish resources (especially near-shore) are at or above maximum levels of exploitation. To reverse this trend, the Ministry of Agriculture, responsible for managing fisheries in India, needs to effectively regulate industrial fishing in India’s seas.

You should ask Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar to manage India’s marine fisheries sustainably, because millions of livelihoods depend on them.

India’s fish stocks are depleting and a lot of it is being stolen, cheating local fishing communities and the people of this country. Ask Minister Sharad Pawar to act now!

Fishing doesn't have to be a dirty word. Do it sustainably.
