Hi,
we are trying to track 2 flies in a circular arena. There will always and only be 2 flies at all times. However, when the two flies are close to each other CTRAX merges the two flies into one ellipse. Is there a way to "force" CTRAX identify 2 flies at all times?

Also, sometimes CTRAX loses track of one fly, but then assigns a new ID to that fly when it finds it again. Is there a way to tell CTRAX it's the same fly? (because it did not lose track of the other fly in the meantime, we are 100% sure the "newly detected" fly is the same as before).

Thanks and cheers!

Hallo Vincent,

Were you able to resolve the 2nd issue? I am also using ctrax now and facing the same problem. The same individual gets new ID again and again. It will be great help if you or someone could tell me how to handle this.

Thank you
Best Regards
Shahin

I'd suggest increasing your background threshold so the flies don't merge (i.e., the foreground pixels aren't touching). Also take a look at the tracking settings - there are a lot that can affect merging/splitting tracks. If you can prevent the tracks from merging, you'll also be able to maintain fly identity automatically.

Hello, I also have these problems, specifically which settings would you modify in the tracking settings in order to avoid merge of identities?
