Good Afternoon Charles -

This is an excellent question and I would recommend you send it out to the CTPA membership though the google group.  You can send it to this email (ct...@googlegroups.com) and it will go to our entire membership.

Thanks

Hello!

Like many of you are probably doing (or have done so already), we are redesigning our ACA 122 course to meet the requirements of the new course title (Transfer & Career Success), course description, and course competencies. We are also preparing to only offer ACA 122 across the board and no longer offer ACA 122 and ACA 111. The move to offering only ACA 122 has presented some challenges for us as we try to redesign the course. In particular, we are finding it difficult to make the course applicable to the wide range of students we have.

Have any of your institutions moved to only offering ACA 122 to all students regardless of program? If so, we are interested in speaking with you to understand how you crafted the course so that it meets the needs of all students and not just those who are intent on transferring to a 4-year institution.

Your time and consideration is greatly appreciated!

Charles you may want to check with State Director of Advising, Dr. Jennifer McLean. She may have some of the data you are interested in from a recent statewide survey.

I am copying Dr. McLean on the email for your convenience.

Hi Charles,

At Southwestern Community College, we do not plan to stop teaching ACA 111. Although it would help some students who transfer, it would not apply to most students who are only interested in a two-year program and then enter the workforce. These students are more interested in working as welders, hairdressers, medical assistants or etc. At the very least, they already do not see the value in this class. It would be difficult to convince them to investigate transfer guides and universities they have no interest in attending.

Kind regards,

Vicki Todd
