Hi all,
At Rockingham Community College, our president has asked us to evaluate our student onboarding process, and I was reaching out to ask what has worked well at your institutions with regard to registering students for classes and particularly the advisement part
of that process.
One of the key concerns in our revisiting our onboarding process is that students apply to the college but are not registered for classes until they attend orientation. In their first contact with the college, students apply and often complete the FAFSA. Students
then must visit campus during one of our New Student Orientation sessions, which is potentially a second campus visit for students. At the end of orientation, students visit their program areas, are oriented to those programs, and then are advised and registered
for courses by faculty.
We think faculty advisement is valuable for students and are looking for ways to include that while possibly eliminating the need for an additional campus visit during the onboarding process.
Any insights or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you all in advance,
Ben
