CTPA Members,

We are holding a special CTPA Election to fill two vacant positions, President-Elect/Treasurer and Western Regional Representative. Voting will take just one minute! The ballot will be available until Thursday, July 3, at 11:45 pm.

                Here’s a link to the ballot: https://forms.office.com/r/dGTv1JapAX

Below are statements from the two candidates:

Candidate for President-Elect/Treasurer: Dr. Don Miller

Dr. Don Miller is uniquely qualified to serve as President-Elect/Treasurer of the College Transfer Program Association (CTPA) given his extensive leadership experience within the North Carolina Community College System. Dr. Miller currently serves as a Central Region representative for CTPA.  As Associate Dean of Advising and College Transfer at Central Carolina Community College, Dr. Miller has successfully co-led institutional events, researched and implemented transfer agreements, and facilitated collaborative planning efforts involving faculty, staff, and university partners. During the 2024-2025 academic year Dr. Miller co-planned and led Central Carolina Transfer fairs, including an “HBCU Block Party” and “Cougar Madness”, in which several University representatives attended.  Dr. Miller serves as Central Carolina’s point person for the annual Transfer Tour, ensuring proper venue, set up and promotion of the event. He is actively engaged with University partners, establishing articulation agreements with several private and public universities in the last two years.  He presented on “Paving the Path for AAS Transfer: How to Create a Successful MOU” at the 2024 CTPA Conference and the 2024 North Carolina Community College System Conference.  Dr. Miller serves as chair of Central Carolina’s Advising Committee and Transfer Advisory Board, demonstrating his ability to plan and facilitate meetings.  He maintains accurate, organized data systems to manage advising caseloads and track student success, demonstrating the administrative precision necessary for maintaining CTPA membership and financial records. Dr. Miller has also overseen budgets for advising and transfer programming, ensuring responsible stewardship of institutional funds and transparent reporting practices. His commitment to statewide transfer advocacy, combined with his operational expertise and history of supporting executive leadership, makes him well prepared to assist the President and help advance the goals of CTPA.

Candidate for Western Regional Representative: Melissa Reid

I’m the program chair for the Associate in Science degree and the department chair of Mathematics at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. I have taught everything from developmental mathematics to Calculus. We were part of the RISE Redesign and served as the Beta Pilot. Developmental and corequisite design has been front and center, and I'm passionate about finding ways to help students be successful.  I graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and minored in computer science and business. I also received my M.A. in Mathematics with a concentration in college teaching at Appalachian State University.

Many thanks to our members for taking time to vote and to our candidates for their willingness to serve in these important roles.

Thank you,

Lea
