MURPHY TO HIGHLIGHT IMPORTANCE OF SUMMER ENRICHMENT FOR ALL KIDS WITH VISIT TO HORIZONS SUMMER CAMP
** TODAY, August 1st at 12:30pm**
HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Tuesday will visit Horizons Summer Camp to highlight federal support for summer enrichment activities for all kids, including those with developmental disabilities. Murphy will meet with campers and staff to hear about their experiences at Horizons, and how the program’s continued growth has allowed it to support hundreds of people with disabilities year-round.
In 2021, Murphy led the push to include funding for summer enrichment as part of the American Rescue Plan, helping to secure more than $1.2 billion for summer programming. Over the last three years, Connecticut has used federal dollars to award $31.5 million in summer enrichment grants, funding more than 400 summer learning programs and helping more than 200,000 kids access summertime activities.
