MURPHY APPLAUDS LATEST NAVY CONTRACTS AWARDED TO ELECTRIC BOAT
HARTFORD, CT— U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today released the following statement after the United States Navy awarded two major submarine contracts to General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB), including a $29.5 billion contract modification for Columbia Class Build II submarines, and a $42.1 billion multiyear procurement contract for Virginia Class Block VI submarines. An additional $5.0 billion in Shipbuilder Productivity Efforts is also being directed to GDEB and their subcontractors.
“These awards to Electric Boat are huge investments in our national security and in the engineers, welders, pipefitters, and machinists who build the world’s most advanced submarines. We’re glad to see the Navy recognize the hard work and talent of Connecticut’s workers with these contracts - which will boost U.S. shipbuilding nationwide and reinforce Groton’s title as the ‘Submarine Capital of the World.’”
