LAURA FUCCI TO
CHALLENGE REPRESENTATIVE FERRARO IN THE 117th HOUSE DISTRICT
Milford, CT – August 31, 2022: Democrat Laura Fucci has announced
her candidacy for State Representative for Connecticut’s 117th Legislative District on the Working
Families Party Line. The district covers sections of Milford, Orange, and West
Haven.
For several years, the 117th has been electing Republican Charles Ferraro, a conservative Republican who has opposed Paid Family & Medical Leave, Climate Change Initiatives, the $15.00 minimum wage, Police Oversight, and voted against any issues concerning a woman’s Right to Choose.
Laura Fucci, a life-long Democrat who works in the Milford Registrar of Voters’ office, will appear as a Candidate on the Working Families Party line.
“If elected State Representative for the 117th”, says Fucci, “I will vote for Progressive Bills as an ally to the Democrats, and a distinctive voice for Children and Women”.
Fucci decided to run for office following the repeal of Roe v Wade.
As the mother of three young women, she wanted to see Connecticut stand up to protect women’s rights – and was disappointed when local democrats failed to challenge Ferraro, an anti-choice Republican, for the seat. Fucci took a step forward, and decided to run herself.
Her three daughters make her
understand the challenges faced when negotiating decisions within a group:
“Nobody likes to compromise,” she has stated, “but that is how we get consensus. Certain things, however, are simply not negotiable: Funds for Education, Free Libraries, Good Transportation, Fair Taxes, and the Right for individuals to make safe and healthy choices for themselves and their families.”
Due to her late entry into the election process, Fucci was unable to make the deadlines for the Citizen’s Election Program and will rely on individual contributions of under $250.
