Himes to Attend The Bridge on Main Groundbreaking, Visit Community Organization Combatting Recidivism
Bridgeport, CT – Tomorrow, January 27th, at 10:00 AM, Congressman Jim Himes will attend the groundbreaking ceremony of The Bridge on Main, a resource center located in downtown Bridgeport that will host workforce development programs and services offered by Career Resources and other community-based partners. The new workforce preparation hub will primarily serve formerly incarcerated individuals, seeking to boost their prospects of full employment and reduce recidivism. The project was made possible, in part, by $500,000 in Community Project Funding secured by Congressman Himes in Fiscal Year 2024.
THEN, at 12:00 PM, Congressman Himes will visit the Bridgeport office of EMERGE, a community organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of recidivism by engaging formerly incarcerated individuals in wrap-around services and providing them with transitional employment. Upon successful enrollment, EMERGE participants can work up to 24 hours a week earning above minimum wage in a variety of fields and attend mentoring sessions, financial empowerment lessons, and community discussions.
