GEORGE JEPSEN, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
TELLS REPUBLICAN OPPONENT TO ‘FACE THE FACTS, MARTHA’
For immediate release
Nov. 1, 2010
HARTFORD – George Jepsen, the Democratic and Working Families candidate for Attorney General, said Monday that continued attacks on his qualifications by his Republican opponent show that “Martha Dean is willing to play fast and loose with both the law and the facts.”
“Here is the law: The Connecticut Supreme Court held the Attorney General must have made his or her living representing clients as a lawyer for at least 10 years and to have ‘at least some experience litigating cases in court’.”
“Here are the facts: I have made my living practicing law by representing clients for more than 26 years. After almost 10 years representing workers in the Carpenters’ union in various litigation matters, I have practiced in three law firms: 5 years each at Abate & Fox in Stamford and at Shipman & Goodwin in and almost 7 years and Cowdery, Ecker & Murphy in Hartford,” Jepsen said.
“While at Abate and Cowdery, firms with substantial litigation practice, I have appeared for clients in virtually every state court – from probate courts up to the Connecticut Supreme Court. This more than meets the Supreme Court’s standard,” Jepsen said.
“The Attorney General has a special obligation not to file frivolous cases, to check the facts first and to not misstate the law. As Attorney General, I will uphold that special obligation; my opponent has shown that she will not,” Jepsen said.
“I am confident Connecticut voters won’t fall for Martha’s political grandstanding. I ask Connecticut voters for their support on Nov. 2. Election results are one fact that Martha can’t ignore,” Jepsen said.
