MAYOR JUSTIN ELICKER TO CELEBRATE 120th ANNIVERSARY OF J. PRESS AND GRAND OPENING OF NEW FLAGSHIP STORE ON ELM STREET
Ribbon-cutting will mark new chapter in the history of the iconic Ivy League men’s clothier. The new 1,780 square foot building in the City’s Broadway district has two floors of retail space, a full-service tailor shop, administrative offices, and an e-commerce distribution center.
NEW HAVEN, CT – Today, Thursday, October 13 at 3 p.m., New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker will join Michinobu Yasumoto (President and CEO of J. Press New Haven’s parent company, Owning Holding) and other city, civic, and elected officials to celebrate the 120th anniversary of J. Press and the grand opening of the iconic men’s clothier’s new flagship store in New Haven at 262 Elm Street.
Founded in New Haven in 1902 by Jacobi Press, the Ivy League haberdasher is known the world over and has other stores in New York City, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. The ribbon-cutting will mark a new chapter in the history of the storied clothing label and celebrate its move last May to a new 1,780 square foot store in the Broadway district of New Haven. The building features two floors of retail space, a full-service tailor shop, administrative offices, and an e-commerce distribution center.
The new store adjoins the company’s old home on York Street. That building was severely damaged in a 2013 winter storm, but its owners continued operating on College Street and other locations before relocating permanently to its new home. J. Press has also weathered over a century of changing tastes and fashion trends, adapting with the times without sacrificing the craftsmanship and customer service that have made J. Press the “tailor of choice” for generations of customers.
