Bob Stefanowski Proud to be on Saudi Payroll, Evades Questions About Payments and Other Clients

Stefanowski admits to reporters “I have to put my clients first”

Hartford, CT – After being confronted with evidence last week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski was forced to be honest with voters about his ties to the Saudi Arabian government.

But Bob Stefanowski still refuses to provide details of his contract with a foreign government to the voters of Connecticut, including how much he is getting paid by Saudi Arabia right now while he is running for Governor. After running on a platform of transparency and accountability, why is Bob not being transparent about being on Saudi Arabia’s payroll? And how can he run for Governor while insisting he has to “put his clients first” and while still being paid by the Saudi government?

Bob’s admission to being a paid consultant for NEOM, a futuristic city project that has been labeled the “bloody dream city” of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, comes after he spent weeks denying and dismissing questions about his secret client list. The Stefanowski campaign and Laura Devlin said today This project is nothing to be ashamed of.” If it is nothing to be ashamed of, why did Bob Stefanowski lie and say claims of him working with Saudi Arabia were “not accurate?”

The Crown Prince is providing most of the funding for NEOM and he has been linked to numerous egregious human rights abuses, including the horrific murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The NOEM project– which Bob is consulting on– caused courts to sentence members of local tribes to death after they refused to be displaced and make way for the NEOM city.

Now, Bob Stefanowski’s employer, Saudi Arabia, is conspiring with Russia and the OPEC oil cartel to cut oil production, drive up oil prices and keep gas prices high for everyday Americans. Some have characterized this effort as an attempt to manipulate this year’s midterm elections in the United States.

When asked about how voters might view his connection to the Saudi Crown Prince, “Stefanowski acknowledged concerns with bin Salman’s human rights record,” but then attempted to bury it by highlighting its green energy components. Stefanowski said he’s “comfortable with the project,” has no bad feelings about being involved in this project whatsoever” and met with the head of the project just weeks after journalist Jamal Khashoggi was likely killed by orders that came from Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince

How can voters trust Bob Stefanowski after he spent weeks denying the truth about his business connections with Saudi Arabia?

“After months of refusing to reveal the clients who helped him earn more than $36 million in the last three years, we now know Bob Stefanowski was making millions on a project endorsed by the Saudi Arabian government,” Nancy DiNardo, Chair of Connecticut Democratic Party, said. “Bob Stefanowski talks about transparency, but hid the facts. What else is he hiding? Why did it take being confronted for Bob to admit his work with the Saudi regime?”
