STATE REPRESENTATIVE JUAN CANDELARIA TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS OF STATE LEGISLATORS 

Will serve for the 2025-2027 period alongside new leadership 

 

NEW HAVEN- State Representative Juan Candelaria (D-New Haven) was recently inducted as the president of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) for the 2025-2027 period. 

 

As president of the NHCSL, Rep. Candelaria will work with Hispanic state legislators across the country to design and advocate for policies that will improve the lives of Hispanics nationwide.  

 

“It is an honor to serve as president of the NHCSL, and it is not a responsibility I take lightly,” Rep. Candelaria said. “I intend to lead with collaboration, mutual respect, and an unwavering focus on the needs of the Hispanic community. I thank all of my colleagues and the NHCSL for their support, and I look forward to getting to work.” 

 

Since his election to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 2002, Rep. Candelaria has served in a number of roles, including as a member of the Appropriations and Education Committees, Chair of the Black and Latino Caucus, and most recently, Deputy Speaker of the House – the first Latino to hold the position. 

 

The news of Rep. Candelaria’s new role was met with bipartisan praise from leaders in Connecticut’s legislature. 

 

Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) said: “Throughout his years of service in the Connecticut legislature, Rep. Candelaria has proven to be an incredible leader and consensus-builder. I know he will bring these skills to NHCSL.”

EL REPRESENTANTE ESTATAL JUAN CANDELARIA OCUPARÁ EL CARGO DE PRESIDENTE DEL CAUCUS NACIONAL HISPANO DE LEGISLADORES ESTATALES.

 

Ocupará el cargo durante el período 2025-2027 junto con la nueva directiva.

 

NEW HAVEN – El representante estatal Juan Candelaria (demócrata por New Haven) fue investido recientemente como presidente del Caucus Nacional Hispano de Legisladores Estatales (NHCSL) para el período 2025-2027.

Como presidente del NHCSL, el representante Candelaria trabajará con legisladores estatales hispanos de todo el país para diseñar e impulsar políticas que mejoren la vida de la comunidad hispana a nivel nacional.

“Es un honor servir como presidente del NHCSL, y es una responsabilidad que asumo con gran seriedad”, declaró el representante Candelaria. “Mi intención es liderar con colaboración, respeto mutuo y un enfoque inquebrantable en las necesidades de la comunidad hispana. Agradezco a todos mis colegas y al NHCSL su apoyo, y estoy deseando ponerme a trabajar”.

 

Desde su elección a la Cámara de Representantes de Connecticut en 2002, el representante Candelaria ha desempeñado diversas funciones, incluyendo la de miembro de los Comités de Asignaciones y Educación, presidente del Caucus Negro y Latino, y, más recientemente, vicepresidente de la Cámara de Representantes, siendo el primer latino en ocupar este cargo.

La noticia del nuevo cargo del representante Candelaria fue recibida con elogios bipartidistas por parte de los líderes de la legislatura de Connecticut.
