CT RAIL COMMUTER COUNCIL CELEBRATES
25 YEARS OF SERVICE
NEW LOGO HIGHLIGHTS M8 RAIL CAR
(Stamford CT - November 30, 2010): To celebrate its 25th birthday, the CT Metro-North Rail Commuter Council has commissioned a new logo. Designed by Darien resident John Hair of the John Hair Design Group (www.jhdg.com), the logo features the front silhouette of the new M8 rail car that will go into service before the end of the year.
Created by an act of the Connecticut legislature, the CT Rail Commuter Council’s members are Metro-North or Shore Line East commuters who serve without compensation as advocates of their fellow riders’ interests. The CT Rail Commuter Council meets monthly with Metro-North and Connecticut Dept of Transportation and testifies before state and regional boards and commissions in favor of affordable, reliable rail service in the state.
“I’m very proud of the work of the Council over the past quarter century,” said Chairman Jim Cameron of Darien. “We’ve fought hard for our fellow commuters… for new rail cars… opposing fare hikes… for overdue station repairs… and for increased parking. We’ve always tried to be fair with the folks from Metro-North and the Connecticut DOT in representing commuters’ interests. ”
Logo designer John Hair was a commuter on Metro-North for 20 years, says he was glad to take the commission to design the new logo. Hair, who usually does graphic design for magazine covers and marketing materials, said “I used to enjoy commuting. The ride always gave me time to think. Train time was truly my own time.”
The new logo will be featured in an update of the Council’s website, on its annual report and in media releases. The logo was underwritten by contributions from Council members.
