THURSDAY: Treasurer Russell Hosts Public Finance Conference in New Haven
Treasurer Erick Russell will host the 2024 Public Finance Outlook Conference in New Haven on Thursday. The event will bring together municipal leaders and public finance professionals with investors and other stakeholders. A series of panels and presentations will focus on programs and policies affecting Connecticut’s cities and towns, and a fireside chat with Webster Bank Chief Financial Officer Glenn MacInnes and Torsten Sløk, a Partner and Chief Economist for Apollo Global Management, will detail national economic trends.

THURSDAY: Treasurer Russell to be Honored with 2024 Champions of Children Award by Center for Children’s Advocacy
Treasurer Erick Russell will receive the 2024 Champions of Children Award at this year’s Spring for Kids cocktail reception and picnic at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford. The event is the annual fundraiser for the Center for Children’s Advocacy, a nonprofit law firm that provides legal representation and advocacy for the most at-risk children and youth in Connecticut.
The Champions of Children Awards honor Connecticut leaders whose dedication and commitment have tremendous positive impact on the lives of our most vulnerable children.

TUESDAY: Treasurer Russell Promotes CHET College Savings with First Pitch at Yard Goats Game
Treasurer Erick Russell, Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), will address the crowd and throw out the first pitch prior to the Yard Goats game at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford on Tuesday evening. In his remarks, he will remind attendees about the benefits of saving for college with CHET and encourage them to take part in the next Dream Big! Competition, which opens on August 18.
CHET is the tax-advantaged 529 college savings plan sponsored by the Office of the Treasurer and managed by Fidelity. Families in attendance also will be able to talk with CHET staff and pick up informational resources before the game.
Thanks to legislation championed by Treasurer Russell and passed this session, employers are now eligible for a 25 percent tax credit for contributions made to their employee’s CHET 529 college savings accounts. Employers can earn a credit of up to $500 per employee.

TOMORROW: Treasurer Russell Joins Junior Achievement Panel to Mark National Financial Awareness Day
Treasurer Erick Russell will take part in a free, in-person panel discussion in honor of National Financial Awareness Day on Thursday, August 14. Joining the Treasurer will be Joe Gianni, president of Bank of America Greater Hartford, and Akilah Franklin, an educator from Weaver High School. Also on the panel will be two student leaders from Junior Achievement, the host of the event.
The panel will explore key financial topics such as early money management, first-time financial decisions, Connecticut’s economic outlook, the rise of FinTech, and how to better prepare young people for long-term financial success.

TOMORROW: Treasurer Russell to Announce FY25 Investment Performance at September IAC Meeting
Treasurer Erick Russell will host the September meeting of Connecticut’s Investment Advisory Council (IAC) on Wednesday, September 10, at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. At this meeting, the investment returns of the Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds (CRPTF) for Fiscal Year 2025 will be presented.
This meeting is open to the public and will be streamed on CT-N.
After the IAC meeting (at 1:00pm), Treasurer Russell will join Governor Lamont at the Capitol, Room 208, for a news conference to discuss pension fund performance and make an announcement concerning Connecticut’s credit rating.
