MEDIA ALERT
United Way of Greater New Haven mobilizes volunteers to distribute groceries to New Haven Public School students and families ahead of the holiday break
New Haven, CT — Join United Way of Greater New Haven as host another School Break Groceries pop-up food pantry at John Martinez School.
On Tuesday, December 23rd, a team of United Way volunteers will work together to set up a food pantry and distribute groceries to New Haven Public School students and families. In New Haven, nearly 14,500 students qualify for free and reduced lunch. For these
students’ families, winter break and other extended periods away from school are difficult times as meals missed during breaks put additional strain on family grocery budgets.
Because of this, United Way of Greater New Haven will mobilize volunteers and distribute groceries to nearly 1,600 families and individuals across four New Haven school sites, including John Martinez School. Pantry staples for this distribution have been purchased
from CT Foodshare, while produce has been purchased from Carbonella & DeSarbo.
