YALE SCHOOL OF THE ENVIRONMENT URBAN RESOURCES INITIATIVE INVITES COMMUNITY ON GREENSPACE PROGRESS BUS TOUR

NEW HAVEN, CT – TONIGHT, Friday, August 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Yale School of the Environment’s Urban Resource Initiative (URI) invites community members on a bus tour of New Haven’s Greenspaces maintained by URI’s volunteers. Mayor Justin Elicker will join.

URI is a university not-for-profit partnership actively engaged in community forestry activities throughout New Haven. The partnership between Hixon Center of Urban Ecology at the Yale School of the Environment and a local nonprofit board of directors has brought valuable collaboration between the expertise of the University and community centered New Haven leadership since 1995. Each summer, New Haven has hundreds of volunteers supporting nearly 50 active Greenspace groups with materials, supplies, tools, and technical assistance provided by URI and a Yale student Community Forester intern to accomplish community-given goals for improvement in the Greenspaces.

This year’s bus tour marks the return of URI’s most popular public event after a two-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions.  The tour provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the hard work of the URI volunteers. Two school buses will pick up and drop off participants at New Haven’s City Hall (165 Church Street) for a two-hour tour of about a dozen of the volunteer-maintained Community Greenspaces and a pizza break served at Mitchell Library. URI asks that masks are worn on the bus.

Media, as well as the general public are welcome to join, however registration is required for all participants.
