MURPHY WELCOMES OLD LYME STUDENT AS U.S. SENATE PAGE
WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) welcomed William Coppola, a junior at Old Lyme High School, who is serving as a U.S. Senate Page for the Spring 2023 program. William will have the opportunity to work in the Senate chamber and assist with the day-to-day operations at the Capitol.
“William is a stellar student and promising young leader from Connecticut. As Vice President of his Model UN Club, he knows all about how the UN works, and now he’ll have chance to learn the ins and outs of the Senate. The Page Program gives students a front row seat to the policymaking process, and I’m happy to welcome him to Washington,” said Murphy.
"The past seven weeks have not only created an opportunity to see Washington and the legislative system in process, but have also granted me the opportunity to become part of something larger than myself. Since arriving, I have not just witnessed some of America's greatest political figures speak, but I've been able to work and interact with them on a daily basis. I would like to thank Senator Murphy for allowing me the honor of severing as his page and continuing the legacy of representing Connecticut in the Senate,” said Coppola.
Page responsibilities include delivery of correspondence and legislative materials within the Congressional complex, taking messages for members, preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk. Pages are also required to attend classes each morning at the Page School beginning at 6:15am. The Senate Page Program is administered by the Sergeant at Arms, the Secretary of the Senate, and the party secretaries.
