CROMWELL, CT - With Canadian wildfires causing calls for use of N95 masks outdoors, this year’s protest in Cromwell takes on added urgency.
On Wednesday, June 21, Connecticut Citizen Action Group and the Insure Our Future coalition will rally outside the Travelers Championship Tournament in Cromwell, protesting the companies investment and underwriting of fossil fuels.
Beginning at 8:45 am, climate activists will march alongside the TPC River Highlands golf course starting from the corner of Laurel Drive and Field Road up to the gate at the corner of Field Road and Golf Club Road, with banners and signs calling on Travelers Insurance to end their insurance of the fossil fuel industry. The protestors will be accompanied by Hartford's Proud Drill Drum and Dance Corp, an organization that works to transform lives through art & entertainment.
This year, a model oil derrick will also be used to illustrate the impact of fossil fuels on our planet.
Travelers Insurance is one of the top insurers of the oil and gas industry and has adopted no formal policies to limit support for (non-tar sands) oil and gas projects or companies.
This rally comes just a few weeks after investors challenged the company with two climate resolutions on the ballot at the annual general meeting (AGM), demonstrating investor concern with the reputational and fiduciary risk involved with climate change.
The protest is organized by Connecticut Citizen Action Group and the Insure Our Future Coalition. If you would like updates or to speak with representatives of the team participating in the action and meeting, contact Helen Humphreys: 860-202-3731, helendh...@gmail.com.
