MEDIA ADVISORY – June 17, 2026

New Britain, Conn. - As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, questions about the nation’s founding are resurfacing with renewed curiosity.

The Office of Professional Education at Central Connecticut State University will dive into Connecticut’s role in the American Revolution during an upcoming Scholars for Life talk on Tuesday, July 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. Central History professor Dr. Matt Warshauer will lead the conversation.

Known as the “Provision State,” Connecticut supplied the Continental Army with massive quantities of food, livestock, and essential materials throughout the war.

“I think Connecticut’s role in the Revolution, like virtually every military conflict the United States has ever been involved in, is instrumental,” Warshauer says.

Warshauer also will discuss how the nation has commemorated the Declaration in the past and consider the 250th anniversary in the context of the present-day political landscape in America.

Scholars for Life sessions start with dinner at 5 p.m., followed by the talk at 6 p.m. The talk and dinner are $25. Attendees can pay in person with cash or a check or pay online at www.ccsu.edu/conedpayment/. Users should type in $25 in the payment field and OPE will apply it to the correct event.
