West Hartford, CT, March 12, 2026 – Journey Home, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness throughout Greater Hartford, announces the opening of Home for Good, a non-profit thrift store where 100% of the profits support Journey
Home’s mission to end homelessness throughout Greater Hartford. The store opened for business on Thursday, February 26 at 591 New Park Avenue, West Hartford. Our official Ribbon Cutting is scheduled for
Thursday, March 19 at 1pm. The Ribbon Cutting is graciously organized by the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.
Every purchase at Home for Good supports Journey Home's mission to help individuals and families move out of homelessness and into stable housing. The store represents an innovative approach to nonprofit sustainability, creating a new social enterprise that
enables Journey Home to sustain and expand its programs even during challenging economic times.
“What sets us apart is our intention”, said Deputy Director Sara Salomons Wilson, "Our store does more than sell secondhand furniture and home decor. It is a curated, boutique-style experience that inspires shoppers and keeps material out of landfills while
creating dignity and stability for individuals and families who deserve a home to call their own.”
"Every vintage piece you take home helps make a home for someone else," added Retail Manager, Christina Heffernan, “When you shop with us, you're not just finding a great bargain -- you're helping a neighbor find stability, dignity, and hope."
The thrift boutique serves multiple purposes in the community:
-
Supporting Families in Transition: Proceeds fund Journey Home's programs, including providing donated furniture and household items at no cost to families moving out of homelessness.
-
Environmental Sustainability: By giving pre-loved items a second or third life, the Home for Good thrift boutique reduces waste and keeps usable goods out of landfills, addressing both community needs and environmental concerns.
-
Economic Opportunity: Home for Good creates new job and volunteer opportunities for community members, including opportunities for individuals Journey Home serves.
-
Sustainable Funding: Revenue generated at Home for Good supports Journey Home's community programs year-round, creating financial sustainability.
Journey Home is a nonprofit organization committed to ending homelessness in Connecticut's Capital Region. Through comprehensive services and community partnerships, Journey Home helps individuals and families transition from homelessness to stable housing
while addressing the root causes of housing insecurity.
