GOVERNOR LAMONT ENDORSED BY CONNECTICUT’S AMALGAMATED TRANSIT UNION

Hartford, Conn. – Governor Ned Lamont today announced he has received the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) of Connecticut , representing more than 2,000 active and retired transit, paratransit, intercity, and school bus workers across Connecticut. The union represents drivers, mechanics, dispatchers, and other support staff in transit and school districts in all corners of the state, with all six locals standing in support of the Governor’s reelection.

"The men and women of ATU truly keep Connecticut moving, safely transporting tens of thousands of passengers to work, school, medical appointments, and everywhere in between each day," said Governor Ned Lamont. "As Governor, I've stood shoulder-to-shoulder with organized labor, protecting the right to organize, investing in good-paying union jobs, and building the workforce our growing economy depends on. Together, we're modernizing our transportation system, expanding transit options, and making historic investments in infrastructure. I'm proud to have ATU's support as we continue this work."

This announcement builds on a record of support by labor, who have pointed to how the Lamont administration has delivered for Connecticut’s working families, including paid family and medical leave, a minimum wage approaching $17 per hour, historic investments in infrastructure and clean energy, expanded workforce training and apprenticeship opportunities, and stronger protections for workers on the job. Governor Lamont has also strengthened health and safety standards for essential utility workers and cracked down on employee misclassification, helping protect workers' rights, wages, and union standards.

“This administration has stepped up time and time again to support the workers who move Connecticut,” said Veronica Chavers, President of ATU Connecticut Legislative Council. “Governor Lamont doesn't just talk the talk; he walks the walk.  He has stood with workers, every step of the way, with legislation that gives our members and workers a stronger voice at the table. And he has stepped up for transit, making historic investments in our bus fleets, expanding service, and rolling out free fares for students and veterans. On behalf of the membership of ATU in Connecticut, we are proud to endorse Governor Lamont for his continued leadership.”

The ATU endorsement underscores Governor Lamont’s record of delivering for Connecticut workers. He has championed prevailing wage protections, banned captive audience meetings, supported labor peace agreements, and defended the right of workers to organize and bargain collectively. Under his leadership, Connecticut has emerged as a national leader in labor rights, creating more pathways to good-paying union jobs and a stronger economy built from the middle out.

The Transit Workers join a growing list of endorsements, including U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and U.S. Reps. John Larson, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes and Jahana Hayes, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, Treasurer Erick Russell, Attorney General William Tong, 93 State Lawmakers, 86 Democratic Town Committee Chairs, more than 50 municipal leaders across the state, 44 Democratic State Central Committee members, the Teamsters Union, Unite Here Local 217, the Connecticut District Laborers’ Council, the Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association, and the Connecticut Carpenters Union. The campaign will continue to roll out additional endorsements in the coming days.
