Stratford’s Economic & Community Development Commission Unveils
“Why Stratford?” Video Series
“Stratford’s a great place to grow up. If your kids grow up here and they are engaged in this community, they can live anywhere in the world,” touts a proud Mayor Laura R. Hoydick, a life-long Stratford resident who together with her husband, Paul, raised their three children in Town.
“Stratford was our high-five decision,” shares Amanda Meeson, Executive Director of Stratford’s Sterling House Community Center, on her family’s decision to relocate to Stratford from New York City.
These are two of many inspiring sentiments that are shared on Stratford’s new community-focused video, “Why you belong in Stratford,” which was released today.
“Why you belong in Stratford” is the second video of the series, “Why Stratford?” The first video, “Why your business belongs in Stratford,” was released last fall and is closing in on 10,000 views.
An initiative funded by Stratford’s Economic and Community Development Commission, the series is a marketing tool intended to showcase the people, the businesses, the natural resources, and everything that makes Stratford such a special, unique community.
West Field Productions was among the production companies who responded to the Town’s Request for Proposals (RFP). Impressed by West Field’s portfolio of work for other clients, the Commission handily awarded the contract to the company.
Stratford’s Economic Development Director Mary Dean explains the evolution of the series: “Production began in the fall of 2019, but when the first video was set for release in March 2020, COVID hit and we decided to change course. The Commission then hired Stratford’s own award-winning photojournalist John Dempsey to create a series of six smaller, 30-second videos highlighting various small business sectors, which aired each week throughout the summer. The goal was to remind and motivate people to keep their business local, to support our small business community especially through the pandemic.”
