-PRESS RELEASE-
NEW HAVEN TEACHERS UNION AGREES TO TENTATIVE AGREEMENT
NEW HAVEN- Mayor John DeStefano, Jr., Superintendent Dr. Reginald Mayo
and New Haven Federation of Teachers (NHFT) President David Cicarella
announced today that a tentative agreement has been entered into by the
union and the City of New Haven over the terms of a new collective
bargaining agreement.
The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by union membership.
All parties have agreed not to disclose any details of the agreement
until details are presented to union membership and a vote takes place
on October 13.
"The agreement is in entirely consistent with the Joint Statement of
Beliefs and reform goals that the NHFT and City agreed to," said
Cicarella.
"Comprehensive school change is the best economic development strategy,
the best violence reduction strategy and the best pathway to support our
children that the City can ever hope to do,” said DeStefano. “The
choice for New Haven in the pursuit of school change is whether we shall
be an average city or a great city. This agreement and the work yet to
be done can forever change New Haven for the good.”
"We're excited about the level of cooperation we've achieved," said
Mayo. "The main theme that has resonated throughout these negotiations
has been that we are all truly committed to moving New Haven students to
the next level and really prepare them to excel in school and in life."
Additional details will be made available upon ratification of the
tentative agreement by NHFT members next week.
