Himes to Host Annual Valentines for Vets Program, Tour Fairfield University Climate Center, Announce Federal Road Safety Grant for Fairfield
Bridgeport, CT – Tomorrow, January 29th, at 11:30 AM, Congressman Jim Himes will visit Brookside Elementary School in Norwalk as part of his annual Valentines for Vets program. Now in its 14th year, the event encourages elementary school students and youth group participants to make valentine’s day cards for local veterans. THEN, at 1:45 PM, Congressman Himes will tour Fairfield University's Center for Climate, Coastal, and Marine Studies and hear from students about the center's mission and their research. There, he will also meet with Director Rob Nazarian to discuss the center's focus on large-scale research meant to address global climate challenges impacting marine environments.
Later, at 3:15 PM, Congressman Himes will join Fairfield First Selectperson Christine Vitale to announce the town's receipt of a $300,000 federal Safe Streets for All grant meant to address traffic safety challenges caused by navigation apps diverting I-95 traffic onto local and state roads. Fairfield aims to use the federal funding to increase safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists during peak congestion hours when highway traffic is funneled through school zones, residential streets, and areas with high concentrations of older adults.
