Democrat Shawn Wooden first to meet fundraising threshold to qualify for public financing in state treasurer’s race

Hartford, Connecticut (April 30, 2018) -- Today, Shawn Wooden’s campaign for Connecticut state treasurer announced that he’s collected the more than $76,600 in small donations, the amount needed to qualify for the Citizens’ Election Program (CEP).

He’s the first candidate to meet the threshold to qualify for public financing in the race to succeed Treasurer Denise Nappier. To date, Wooden has received contributions from more than 1,000 individuals from more than 100 towns across Connecticut.

“I am extremely grateful for the support that our campaign continues to receive,” said Wooden. “Our message is resonating with many families across our state who are counting on us to get it right. Here’s the bottom line: The leaders we choose in this election will determine whether we have an economy that works for everyone. I’ve spent my professional and public life on the side of working families and advising clients on protecting their investments. I’m ready on day one to do the same as Connecticut’s next state treasurer.”

Once Wooden secures ballot access after the Democratic convention in May, he will receive a $375,000 grant if he has a primary opponent. In the November general election, Wooden would receive an additional $750,000.
