Bank of America Presents ‘Turkey Tuesday’ to Benefit Connecticut Foodshare

Annual event kicks off Connecticut Foodshare’s ‘Turkey and Thirty’ campaign

HARTFORD, Conn., November 16, 2021 - TODAY, Tuesday, November 16, from 7 AM to 3 PM, Renee DiNino, Director of Community Affairs & Community Programming, iHeartMedia Hartford and New Haven, will broadcast live from the CityPlace lobby for this year’s ‘Turkey Tuesday,’ presented by Bank of America. The annual event kicks off Connecticut Foodshare’s annual holiday giving season. The ‘Turkey and Thirty’ campaign raises awareness about food insecurity during the holiday season and beyond, while collecting turkeys in order to provide Thanksgiving meals and raise funds to fight hunger year-round.

“In any year, the Thanksgiving holiday can be a difficult time for those facing food insecurity,” said Jason Jakubowski, President and CEO of Connecticut Foodshare. “The COVID pandemic and the resulting economic downturn have dramatically increased the number of people struggling to get food on the table and the demand for assistance has surged to unprecedented levels. Connecticut Foodshare is committed to meeting the demand, but we cannot fulfill that goal without the help of the community.”

“Hunger is a chronic problem that affects one out of every seven people in Connecticut, especially those most vulnerable in our community,” said Joe Gianni, president, Bank of America of Greater Hartford. “Our continued partnership with Connecticut Foodshare is one way that we are working to address critical needs locally. We are pleased that ‘Turkey Tuesday’ has become the single-largest Thanksgiving food collection event in Greater Hartford.”

Donations received will help Connecticut Foodshare provide food to over 50,000 families across the state on Thanksgiving. Turkey Tuesday is a COVID-compliant event, and an opportunity for dignitaries, business leaders, community leaders and friends to share their commitment to Connecticut Foodshare.  Joining us again this year is Governor Ned Lamont, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Mayor Luke Bronin, Mayor Shari Cantor, and Coach Jim Calhoun to name a few.
