*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
Connecticut Citizen Action Group Statement regarding Commissioner Gillett
9/19/25
Commissioner Marissa Gillett stepped down today from her position at the Public Utilities and Regulatory Agency (PURA). This news comes after a multi-year bullying campaign carried out by the for-profit utility companies, Eversource and United Illuminating, and their highly paid lobbyists.
This is a sad day for Connecticut ratepayers and families.
We first want to thank Commissioner Gillett for her years of service and commitment to the ratepayers of Connecticut. She has done more than any other commissioner in recent history to protect consumers from corporate greed and their attempts to drive up their profits at the expense of ratepayers.
The news of her resignation is the result of a “death by one thousand cuts.” It is alarming that so many Connecticut policy makers are beholden to Eversource and United Illuminating, and the outsized influence they wield in our state government.
We are very concerned about the future of PURA and will continue to hold the agency, and the utility companies accountable for their actions. PURA should be responsible for protecting ratepayers, not protecting corporate greed.
Finally we call on Governor Lamont to fill any vacancies on PURA with appointees who will continue Commissioner Gillette's legacy of protecting ratepayers instead of people who will bend to the will of the companies.
