CITY OF NEW HAVEN AND POSIGEN TO KICK OFF SOLAR FOR ALL NEW HAVEN CAMPAIGN IN EFFORT TO MAKE SOLAR ENERGY USAGE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY UPGRADES MORE ACCESSIBLE TO NEW HAVEN RESIDENTS

Solar lease program helps homeowners reduce their carbon footprint and lower their energy bills with an average savings of $985 per year.

NEW HAVEN, CT – On Thursday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m., Mayor Justin Elicker, New Haven Executive Director for Climate and Sustainability Steven Winter, and PosiGen representatives will hold a news conference to kick off Solar for All New Haven, a new citywide initiative and campaign to help make solar energy adoption and energy efficiency upgrades more accessible to New Haven residents. The announcement will take place at 36 Maplewood Drive, the home of Pastor Roger Wilkins, a PosiGen customer.

Solar for All is a 25-year solar lease program that covers the full cost of installing, maintaining, and insuring the solar system. There is no income requirement, no credit score requirement, no money down, and no equipment to buy, making the use of solar energy more accessible for low- and middle-income residents. Over 200 New Haven homeowners have already installed solar energy with PosiGen, with homeowners saving an average of $985 per year, amidst a time of rising utility costs.

As part of its climate and sustainability efforts, the City of New Haven is actively working to reduce its own carbon footprint through the electrification of its buildings and by encouraging increased adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements among residents, homeowners, and businesses.

The Solar for All citywide campaign, which will go through the end of the year, will include door-to-door canvassing, tabling at community events, and information sessions, among other outreach initiatives. The first info session will occur on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at The Shack, a community center located at 333 Valley Street in the West Hills neighborhood. Additional info sessions are also scheduled for Thursday, May 11th from 12 to 1 p.m. and Tuesday, May 16th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at New Haven City Hall (165 Church Street, Meeting Room 1) with others to follow.
