Andersen Launches Special Election Campaign for Stratford’s 120th Assembly District
STRATFORD - Janice Andersen has been nominated by the Democratic Party to run in the upcoming special election in the 120th assembly district.
Andersen has been actively involved in the Stratford community for the last 19 years. She recently completed a four-year term on Stratford’s Board of Education, where she fought for fiscally responsible budgeting and greater transparency. As co-chair of the Connecticut Children’s Behavioral Health Advisory Council for five years, she advocated for children and families locally and statewide regarding behavioral healthcare and is well-respected in the parent movement in Connecticut.
Andersen is the deputy director of RYASAP, a regional non-profit serving the greater Stratford area. She works with local and statewide programs in juvenile justice advocacy, young adult leadership, and youth development training and consultation. She also manged the local Ameri-Corps program that connected young people with community service opportunities and money for college.
Upon receiving the nomination, Andersen said, "We are facing some of the most turbulent and uncertain times in our country’s history. If elected as our next State Representative I will work for responsible spending, increased efficiency, and transparent government. I will also advocate for job-creation incentives in clean industries such as the movie production, life sciences and financial services. Too many people in our community struggle to make ends meet, we need someone in Hartford who will give our community a voice."
Andersen is the mother of two college-aged daughters and resides in Paradise Green. As a supporter of local community arts, Janice held the role as producer for five seasons with the Players at Putney Gardens at Boothe Memorial Park a local summer Stratford Shakespearean theater group. Janice is also a past President of the local Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport congregation.
Over the next five weeks Andersen will be walking door-to-door, talking to voters, seeking thoughts and input regarding the issues facing Stratford, and the state of Connecticut.
The election will be held on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010. Polls at the Baldwin Center, Stratford High School, Wilcoxson School, Wooster Middle School, Bunnell High School and Second Hill Lane School will be open from 6AM to 8PM. Absentee ballot applications are available from the Town Clerk.
