MAJORITY LEADER JASON ROJAS ISSUES STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF
ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG CHALLENGING TRUMP
ATTACK ON STATES’ FAIR HOUSING LAWS
(Hartford, CT) – Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D-East Hartford, Manchester) issued a statement in support of Attorney General William Tong and a coalition of 16 attorneys general filing a lawsuit challenging unlawful actions by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), including threats to withhold funding from state and local fair housing enforcement agencies for abiding by state laws and to impose illegal conditions on HUD funding.
“I stand with Attorney General Tong in taking action to protect our residents and uphold the values we share as a state. Connecticut has worked hard to build strong, inclusive communities where everyone has a fair shot, and rolling back these protections is unacceptable and out of step with the values of our communities.
In communities across Connecticut, families are doing everything they can to find safe, stable, and affordable housing. They should not have to worry about being turned away because of who they are, how they identify, the language they speak, or how they pay their rent.
Threats to cut funding for enforcing fair housing laws put real people at risk our neighbors, seniors, working families, and young people just starting out. This is about keeping our communities strong, welcoming, and fair for everyone.
I’m grateful for Attorney General Tong’s leadership in standing up for Connecticut families and making sure access to housing remains a right, not a privilege.”
