TOMORROW: Larson to Host Government Shutdown Forum at Elmwood Community Center
West Hartford, CT – On Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at 12:30 PM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) will host a forum to discuss the ongoing government shutdown at Elmwood Community Center in West Hartford.
Government funding expired Tuesday night after Senate Republicans rejected a plan supported by every House and Senate Democrat to keep government open, reverse health care cuts President Trump signed into law, and extend Affordable Care Act tax credits that help 20 million Americans afford their premiums.
Leading up to Tuesday, President Trump encouraged Republicans in Congress to “not even bother” negotiating, leaving the nation barreling toward a devastating shutdown. If these cuts go into effect, 37,000 residents of the First District will lose coverage and 19,000 will see their premiums skyrocket. The average family of four will see their health care costs rise by $2,571 next year.

East Hartford, CT – On Thursday, October 30th, 2025, at 12:30 PM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) and Attorney General William Tong will visit InterCommunity Healthcare in East Hartford to hear from health care providers and food pantry operators on the impact of the government shutdown on the populations they serve.
Despite funding authorized by Congress to keep food assistance flowing, the Trump Administration is violating federal law to shut down SNAP benefits starting on Saturday. 360,000 Connecticut residents, including 120,000 children, will be cut off from food assistance if the Administration refuses to release funding as required by federal law.
Larson and the entire Connecticut Congressional delegation have called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to prevent a catastrophic lapse in SNAP benefits. Earlier this week, Attorney General Tong announced a multi-state lawsuit challenging their unlawful plan to suspend food assistance.

TOMORROW: Following Bombshell Court Filing, Ranking Members Larson, Neal, Morelle to Call for Next Steps to Investigate ‘DOGE’ Data Theft from Social Security
Washington, D.C. - On Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, at 12:00 PM, House Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01), Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (MA-01), and Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (NY-25) will call for next steps to respond to this week’s bombshell court filing, including a full Congressional investigation into the ‘DOGE’ effort to hand records over to an unnamed MAGA-aligned advocacy group seeking to overturn election results and use of a private server to trade confidential Social Security records. Given the new revelations, they will also call on the courts to take action and revisit decisions that allowed ‘DOGE’ unfettered access to Social Security records while a court challenge is considered.
In March 2025, Ranking Member Larson and Democrats introduced the Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act to block political appointees and special government employees like ‘DOGE’ from accessing data at Social Security – which would have prevented this data breach.

Hartford, CT - On Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at 11:00 AM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) will announce $500,000 in new federal funding for Mothers United Against Violence’s Victim Impact Project, to continue their efforts to prevent gun violence and support survivors in the Greater Hartford area. Mothers United Against Violence works hand-in-hand with local law enforcement to build trust and keep communities same, while also providing supportive services to victims and families impacted by gun violence.
Larson secured this new funding as part of a government funding package that passed the House earlier this month and was signed into law last Friday. This year’s Community Project Funding builds on $1.3 million Larson previously secured in Congress for the Victim Impact Project, totaling $1.8 million in federal funding over the last five years.

Rep. Larson and the Connecticut delegation previously helped secure $19 million in federal infrastructure funding to combat PFAS pollution in Connecticut’s drinking water supply, and helped pass the bipartisan PFAS Act, which was signed into law by President Biden in 2022, to prevent the release of PFAS foam into the environment.

TOMORROW: Larson, Ways and Means Democrats to Introduce Resolution of Inquiry Probing ‘DOGE’ Election Interference Scheme
Washington, D.C. - On Wednesday, February 11th, 2026, at 10:30 AM, House Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) will announce a Resolution of Inquiry he is introducing with every Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee to compel information from the Trump Administration about ‘DOGE’ data theft at Social Security and their scheme to use confidential records with a MAGA-aligned group trying to overturn elections.
This resolution follows President Trump’s threats to “nationalize elections” and a bombshell court filing revealing that ‘DOGE’ traded data they took from Social Security on a private server and signed an agreement to use the information they took from Social Security to undermine free and fair elections.
On Monday, Democracy Forward led a coalition of retirees and labor unions, including AFSCME, AFT, and the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA), asking the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland to compel discovery and depositions into ‘DOGE’s illegal use of Social Security records.

Larson requested funding for the new facility as part of this year’s Community Project Funding (CPF) process, securing bipartisan support for the project in the House and Senate. The $3.15 million approved by Congress will support the construction of a two-story active shooter training facility along with a 50-yard indoor police firing range, and a Candidate Physical Agility Test Center (CPAT) to offer training and mentoring for firefighters from across the Northeast.

Earlier this month, hundreds of tenants at Concierge Apartments in Rocky Hill were ordered to evacuate due to broken heating and hot water systems, burst pipes, flooding, and a failed fire suppression system. After JRK Property Holdings initially dodged Attorney General William Tong’s probe into their failures to keep tenants safe amid frigid temperatures, Larson contacted U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner to formally request a federal investigation into the negligent property owner.
Larson and Murphy will tour the complex with the local leaders to get an update on the status of ongoing renovations at Concierge Apartments and hear directly from tenants on their experiences.

Hartford, CT – On Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, at 11:00 AM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01), Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, and Sasa Harriott, President of Harriott Community Health Initiative, will announce $1 million in new federal funding Larson secured in Congress to expand the Harriott Community Healthcare Academy in the Blue Hills area of Hartford and Bloomfield, and into rural Northwestern Connecticut communities.
Larson requested funding for the academy’s expansion as part of this year’s Community Project Funding (CPF) process, securing bipartisan support for the project, to expand access to the training needed to equip the next generation of nursing assistants. The funding will help secure locations in other towns in the Greater Hartford area and hire certified teachers to increase the number of students at the academy.
In August, Larson attended the Academy’s graduation ceremony honoring 72 new Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who had completed the program and would now be joining the workforce to help address Connecticut’s nursing shortage.
This announcement comes as Connecticut faces a severe healthcare workforce shortage. Hartford, CT – On Friday, February 20th, 2026, at 10:00 AM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) will join Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, House Majority Leader Jason Rojas and State Rep. Matt Blumenthal, co-chair of the Government Administration and Elections Committee, at the Legislative Office Building to announce a joint federal-state effort to protect elections from illegal ICE intimidation.
Their announcement follows President Trump’s threats to “nationalize elections” and his adviser, Steve Bannon’s, call to deploy ICE agents to polling places.
In Congress, Larson will introduce the Stop ICE Election Militarization Act to explicitly bar ICE from being deployed at polling places, create criminal penalties for federal law enforcement officers violating this prohibition, and ban non-targeted, non-criminal immigration enforcement operations, such as traffic stops, within four weeks of an election.
In the Connecticut General Assembly, Rep. Blumenthal is leading the effort to safeguard Connecticut polling places from federal intimidation. Rep. Blumenthal recently penned an op-ed in the Hartford Courant, “CT elections are under threat. We must protect them now.”

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at 8:00 PM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) will join 30 of his Democratic colleagues on the National Mall, including Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04), for the People’s State of the Union. As President Trump delivers a barrage of lies at the Capitol, the lawmakers will lead a night of counterprogramming calling out his administration’s abuses of power that are hurting the American people.
Along with hosts Katie Phang and Joy Reid, the Democratic lawmakers will be joined on stage by Epstein survivors, families hurt by ICE, fired public health workers, and Americans losing healthcare benefits and struggling with rising costs due to the failed Trump agenda, including Rep. Larson’s guest, Marlon Ricardo Camejo.
Moises Ricardo, Marlon’s father, is a Bristol resident who came to the United States from Cuba 17 years ago. He recently had a scheduled citizenship appointment canceled after U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem issued a discriminatory ban in December pausing all immigration applications for residents from 19 countries, including Cuba, Haiti, and Venezuela.
Rep. Larson has been advocating for Mr. Ricardo’s case to move forward and filed articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem for her continued abuses of power impeding on residents’ constitutional rights.

Hartford, CT - On Monday, March 2nd, 2026, at 9:30 AM, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) and Senator Richard Blumenthal will announce a new federal determination they negotiated with the General Services Administration (GSA) to require a Project Labor Agreement for the upcoming $345 million U.S. District Courthouse construction project in Hartford. The announcement comes after Larson, Blumenthal, and Senator Chris Murphy secured $345 million in federal funding to support the new courthouse’s construction.
