CONNECTICUT BLACK AND PUERTO RICAN CAUCUS CALLS FOR TRUTH, TRANSPARENCY, AND EQUAL ATTENTION FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF NOLAN XAVIER WELLS
Hartford, CT — The Connecticut Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC) extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, classmates, and community mourning the tragic death of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells of Mississippi.
The circumstances surrounding Nolan's disappearance and death have left many unanswered questions. As authorities continue their investigation, the BPRC joins the growing call for a thorough, transparent, and impartial examination of every fact surrounding this heartbreaking case. Nolan's family and the public deserve answers grounded in truth, accountability, and justice.
BPRC Vice Chair Derell Wilson emphasized that equitable attention is an essential part of achieving justice.
“I am deeply concerned that a young black boy in this country cannot safely enjoy various recreational activities without the fear of not returning home safely to his family. I hope that facts are accurately discovered and justice for Nolan is duly achieved.”
BPRC Chair Antonio Felipe expressed the Caucus' sorrow and commitment to ensuring every family receives the attention and support they deserve.
“It is a sad day when a family loses a child. What they deserve at this moment is the unequivocal truth surrounding the situation, justice for any wrongdoing and their child’s memory to be preserved. Our hearts are with Nolan’s family as they face a hardship no family should ever face. We release this statement with respect to that memory in hopes this story gets the coverage it deserves, regardless of color of skin or ethnic background.”
