MURPHY, SCHUMER, CROW TO LEAD BICAMERAL PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCING LEGISLATION TO PROTECT FREE SPEECH IN THE WAKE OF TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ATTACKS ON LIBERAL ORGANIZATIONS
**THURSDAY, September 18th**
WASHINGTON–On Thursday at 12:15 PM, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representative Jason Crow (D-Colo.-6) will be joined by Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), and Tina Smith (D-Minn.), and U.S. Representatives Greg Casar (D-Texas-35) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.-06) at a press conference in the Senate Radio-TV Gallery to announce their intent to introduce the No Political Enemies (NOPE) Act, bicameral legislation to protect individuals and organizations, including non-profits, faith groups, media outlets, and educational institutions, from politically motivated targeting and prosecution by the federal government. Murphy and the lawmakers will discuss their new bill, as well as recent threats from President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and White House Senior Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to use the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk as justification to weaponize the federal government to go after left-leaning individuals and organizations that don’t align with Trump’s political agenda.
