MURPHY TO JOIN ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL TO LAUNCH COMMUNITY HEALTH INITATIVE FOR HARTFORD’S NORTH END
New health partnership to focus on reducing obesity, tobacco use & encourage healthy living
**TOMORROW, Friday, November 4th in Hartford**
HARTFORD —Tomorrow, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health Committee, with join St. Francis Hospital, Trinity Health-New England, representatives from the City of Hartford, and community organizations to announce a new community health partnership, the “Transforming Communities Initiative.” The initiative will bring together Saint Francis, through its Curtis D. Robinson Center for Health Equity, the City of Hartford, and Community Solutions to develop programs and strategies aimed at reducing obesity, promoting tobacco-free living, and encouraging healthy living for residents of the North End of Hartford – one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods. According to a Community Health Needs Assessment Report, the rate of obesity in Hartford is 33%. Murphy worked with Connecticut’s congressional delegation to secure a federal Promise Zone designation for Hartford’s North End.
