Connecticut Democrats’ Statement on 2026 Trump SOTU
HARTFORD - The Connecticut Democratic Party issued the following statements on Donald Trump’s 108 minutes of corruption, division, and chaos in tonight’s State of the Union address.
“Rather than laying out a unifying vision for America in tonight’s address, we were subjected to yet another stream of personal grudges and divisiveness, outright lies, and harmful policies that hurt both Connecticut and the country,” said CT Dems Chair Roberto Alves. “Rhetoric doesn’t lower a single bill for working families. Connecticut Democrats have always been laser-focused on lowering costs, supporting working families, and strengthening our economy. We will not allow Trump’s chaos to stop us from delivering for the people of our state.”
“This confused rant that we will charitably call a speech was heavy on Fox News applause lines and completely lacking in any solutions to the issues we’re facing in Connecticut and around the country,” said CT Dems spokesperson Ian Clarke. “It has never been clearer that we need leaders willing to stand up to Trump as he puts Connecticut’s economy at risk, threatens our neighbors, and attacks our personal freedoms. Instead, the complicit Republicans running for Governor are tripping over each other to compete for his endorsement and praise.”
