MEDIA ALERT
United Way of Greater New Haven celebrates their 105th Birthday with toys for children, cards for seniors, and an exciting announcement
New Haven, CT — On Sunday, December 7, United Way of Greater New Haven will begin celebrating its upcoming 105th birthday at The Shops at Yale’s Weekend of Holiday Cheer. Community members and donors will drop off toys and warm coats for babies and toddlers
as part of United Way’s annual holiday drive. Last year, 330 local children received new toys and a winter coat thanks to this effort, and United Way hopes to serve even more children this year.
To mark the occasion, the public is invited to stop by and write a birthday card for a local senior. Everyone who creates a card will receive a free birthday cookie while supplies last. The cards will be shared with older adults across the region to bring a
little extra joy to seniors celebrating their birthdays, including any local centenarians marking milestones of their own!
United Way will also recognize a major milestone: reaching the $5 million goal for its United for the Future capital campaign during the quiet phase. This historic investment will help meet immediate needs and strengthen long-term community support, ensuring
more families have stable housing, financial security, and opportunities for their children to thrive.
United for the Future is United Way’s first-ever capital campaign, created to address today’s most urgent challenges while preparing for what comes next. The campaign focuses on expanding financial stability programs, strengthening opportunities for children
from birth through high school, and supporting innovative approaches that help neighbors access housing, quality jobs, childcare, and essential services.
