GOVERNOR LAMONT ENDORSED BY THE CONNECTICUT EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
Cites Record Investments in Public Schools, Fully Funding ECS, and Standing Up for Connecticut's Teachers
New Haven, CT — Governor Ned Lamont today announced he has received the endorsement of the Connecticut Education Association (CEA), the state's largest teachers' union, representing tens of thousands of educators who show up for Connecticut's students every single day.
"Long before I was Governor, I was a volunteer teacher at Harding High School in Bridgeport, and it was there I made a promise that every child in Connecticut, regardless of their zip code, deserves the opportunity to get a great education,” said Governor Ned Lamont. “Teachers are the ones who make that promise real every single day and I’ve been proud to support the amazing work they do by fully funding our schools, fighting for fair pay, and giving educators the support they need to do their best work. I am honored to have the support of Connecticut's teachers, and I will keep standing with CEA and educators across our state as we build on that progress together."
Governor Lamont has built a record of standing up for Connecticut's educators and public schools, including fully funding the Education Cost Sharing formula for the first time in state history, delivering free school breakfast and school meals, investing in Universal Preschool, and increasing state education funding by more than $450 million since taking office. That record reflects a consistent commitment to ensuring Connecticut's teachers have the resources, respect, and support they need to help every student succeed, regardless of zip code.
“Leadership is measured by the choices made when it matters most,” said CEA President Kate Dias. “Governor Lamont has consistently demonstrated through his actions that he values public education, supports educators, and understands that strong public schools are the foundation of a strong Connecticut. He has shown a genuine commitment to listening to educators, supporting our public schools, and advancing policies that help students succeed. When educators have a seat at the table, students win, and Governor Lamont’s partnership with the education community has strengthened our schools and our profession. His actions have earned our trust, and we are proud to endorse him for a third term as the leader our state needs.”
The CEA's endorsement adds to a growing list of union support for Governor Lamont's re-election campaign, including AFSCME Council 4, the Connecticut AFL-CIO, 32BJ SEIU, the Teamsters Union, IUOE Local 478, Unite Here Local 217, Unite Here Local 34, the Connecticut District Laborers' Council, the Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association, the Amalgamated Transit Union of Connecticut, the Connecticut Carpenters Union, and the Association of Commuter Rail Employees, along with U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, U.S. Reps. John Larson, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes and Jahana Hayes, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, Treasurer Erick Russell, Attorney General William Tong, Planned Parenthood Votes Connecticut!, the Connecticut Hispanic Democratic Caucus, 93 State Lawmakers, 86 Democratic Town Committee Chairs, more than 50 municipal leaders, and 44 Democratic State Central Committee members. The campaign will continue to roll out additional endorsements in the coming days.
