Danbury at the Epicenter of Immigrant Justice: Community Launches Canvassing Campaign to Protect Families and Build Community Trust
“I’m canvassing because my neighbors deserve to know their rights and feel safe in their own city. When we share resources with each other, we all become stronger.”
Danbury, CT – On Saturday, October 11 at 9:00 a.m., Danbury United for Immigrant Rights (DUFI), along with almost a dozen partners from throughout the state, will kick off its “Families Belong Together Days of Action” with a press conference and canvassing launch. This community-led campaign will bring together people from across Connecticut to canvass neighborhoods in Danbury every Saturday through the end of November. Volunteers will engage neighbors in one-on-one conversations, provide resources through the new DUFI Helpline, and build a stronger, safer, and more connected immigrant community in Danbury—the epicenter of immigrant justice in the state.
The campaign’s goal is simple but urgent: to protect immigrant families, build community trust, and strengthen the network of support and safety in the city.

“Danbury has become the epicenter of immigrant justice in Connecticut,” said Juan Fonseca Danbury Unites for Immigrants organizer. “When our families are targeted, the whole community feels it. This campaign is about neighbors protecting neighbors, building trust, and showing that Danbury will stand united against fear and intimidation. This campaign is about lifting up the leadership and strength already present in our community. Our message is clear: Solo el pueblo salva al pueblo — only the people can save the people. Together, we will protect each other.”
The campaign is expected to mobilize dozens of volunteers weekly and connect with hundreds of Danbury residents before the end of November.
The Families Belong Together Days of Action will run every Saturday from October 11 through November 22. Volunteers will:
Conduct one-on-one outreach to share immigrant rights resources and DUFI’s Helpline.
Build relationships with local businesses, helping them prepare for potential immigration enforcement actions.
Identify new leaders within the immigrant community to grow collective power.
Strengthen community partnerships to create a neighborhood-based safety network.
By meeting residents where they are—at their doors, in their workplaces, and in their neighborhoods—DUFI aims to ensure immigrant families in Danbury have the tools and community power needed to stay safe, informed, and united.
